Loading fmcb without 007
Loading fmcb without 007 –

Hay all,
sorry for any noobness that may befall me at anytime through out this message :P
Anyway, I have been researching how to get fmcb onto our ps2 slim (model70002).
I came across this method of using 007 disc and copy, but the problem is i cannot find a copy of this anywhere now.
So.....
I went through our dvds and found 2 with elf files, so i got all the files needed and replaced with dvd decripter and apache 1.1 ect...
then opened up the ps2 to do swap mod.
instructions
(http://www.ehow.com/how_5477927_softmod-ps.html)
Files
(http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=launchers.html)
Got everything working fine, but the 2 dvds i used dont seem to want to load up the files, not sure if im doin something wrong myself or some settings i havent touched since its not 007.
Anyway its was eyetoy 2, burried away in the cameopr folder. And shrek 2.
Seems the shrek2 is the main one. But as i said neither load it up, closest i get is eyetoy 2 loading cameo up it cracks it and show wrong disc inserted.
So, has any 1 got it to work with out 007, and used some other title thats available, I really dont want to go buy ARmax or swap magic since its only goin to get a single use to load the dam files. :P
Anyay thanks in advance for any help you may have.
cheers

Ah nice, thanks.
Went and got socom 3 done the necesary adjustments then re-read that it is confirmed not to work.
LOL, sure enough, it was correct.
What i forgot to ask before was, does ulaunchelf or fmcb need to be set to pal or ntsc?
And how if it does, cannot seem to find that anywhere.
I'm using a pal system, and once installed, is it then region free?
thanks in advance again.

Well theres a game converter for ntsc2pal games, pretty sure it just changes the region code so you can play it on a multi tv. Other than that, try to use games that are your from your region.

This is just too dam annoying :/
Cant find any working titles anywhere, freinds/video shops/games stores.
And gone through all of our collection and none worked.
shrek 2 -failed
eyetoy 2 - failed(dont laugh, anything with an elf is try able) :P
ratchet gladiator(aka ratchet deadlocked) - failed
we have more but these are the only ones i found .elf files.
Can i use a ps1 game to do a swap trick to install an exploit to open the door to install fmcb?
We have 1 original ps1 left........ MediEvil
Or even schematics for a ps2 mem card to pc adapter.
Any and all idea's welcome.
Thanks again.

No. Both programs will adapt to the default mode of your console, as indicated by its bios. No user settings are needed for this.
And how if it does, cannot seem to find that anywhere.
For uLE you can change the video mode in the "Screen Settings..." sub menu of its configuration menu.

No. The DVD Player still has the same region system as before, and only PAL games of your region will boot as normal original discs. But neither of those things matter much when you start using homebrew methods.
I normally use the homebrew media player SMS to watch movies in AVI form on my PS2, accessing those movies from storage on my PC HDD over LAN, using the SMB protocol feature of SMS to stream the movies from normal Windows fileshares. Since I'm watching normal AVI files stored on my PC, there is no region control system involved, as there would be for DVD-Video movies.
For playing PS2 games all homebrew 'loaders' for such games are inherently region-free, including the following:
ESR: Using DVD-R discs burned with specially patched game backup ISOs
HDLoader: Using IDE HDD of fat PS2 or v12/v13+HDCombo kit
USBAdvance: Using USB drive (HDD or memory sticks)
USBExtreme: Using USB drive (as above)
Open PS2 Loader: Using any of IDE HDD, USB drive, and SMB fileshare on PC
Naturally you may need video mode adaption for out of region games if your TV can't cope with the video mode of the game. But for such cases you can enforce the video mode you need (whichever that is) using the homebrew program GSM (== GS Modeselector).
NB: Since FMCB and other homebrews operate only in PS2 mode, there is nothing they can currently do for any PS1 games, however. So you can still only use PS1 games that are original discs made for your console region. The only ways to change that are to either install a hardware modchip, or to join the throng of people waiting for the release of a real PS1 emulator for the PS2 (which only exists in an early beta stage, not released to the public).

No. Using a PS1 disc would switch the console to PS1 mode where no PS2 programs can work, including the FMCB installer.
Your best bet is to go into the FMCB home forum, found inside the Homebrew/Dev forum here at psx-scene, and there check out the 'sticky' thread of the FMCB installer volunteers. They provide a service where you get FMCB installed for free, paying only the postage and packing both ways (bubblewrap envelopes are mandatory).
This is the best choice for those who lack the means to do the install themselves.
Best regards: dlanor
