load import

I was just wondering is it possible to load an import off my harddrive with a retail HDL ,cogswap, and no mod chip.

of course...it works the same way...I mean if you can stick a backup into HDL and it boot then they shouldn't be any reason why the ps2 won't boot imports....just give it a try...
