I have an issue playing La Pucelle Tactics on my ps2 using the FreeMcboot and ESR method. The problem is that all I see is a black screen but yet I still hear the in-game music and sound effects. All my other burnt games run fine so I don't understand why I can't see anything on screen. FYI I have FMCB version 1.8 and ESR version 9 Beta. I also have a fat ps2 as well and I used the FMCB Noobie Package that came with other apps ( HD Loader and others that I forgot, lol). The game image itself was already converted to DVD ( clocks in at 1.14 Gigs). Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Sounds similar to a game I own except slightly different. Game freezes at the exact same spot every time yet background music plays no problem.

Are you using good quality media? (Verbatim, Sony, Taiyo Yuden, etc)

Could be a bad burn (Sort of.). Or a bad DVD backup from the original disc.

I'm using TDK DVD-R and I burned it using Imgburn at 4x speed.

I don't know what causes your problem, but I can definitely confirm that "La Pucelle Tactics (US)" (aka: SLUS_208.47) works perfectly with ESR here. So properly ripped, patched and burned to a quality DVD-R disc, it should work for you too.

Btw: What do you mean by "was already converted to DVD" ?

It works with ESR? I wish it worked for me. All my other games work wonderfully so I really don't understand it. The game plays but there is no video, just a black screen. I'm not sure if TDK is quality media compared to others so maybe
I'll try a different brand. The reason why I said DVD conversion is because wasn't the original La Pucelle: Tactics a CD based game?

This could be a region issue. What is your console region (the SCPH code of your console), and what is the game ID code (the SLES/SLUS number) of your game disc ?

Can you play other games of the same game region properly ?

Some TVs/monitors will simply shut down the picture when input signals are not compatible with what they were made to use, such as the signals of an NTSC game for a PAL-specific TV/Monitor (or vice versa).

The SRPG games by Nippon Ichi are usually rather small in size, and some of them can be released either on CD or DVD, and I think this has also differed between regions, using CD in one but DVD in another. So I can't say for sure without knowing what game release you are using (that SLES/SLUS code again).

In any case, you should be able to verify this by checking your original disc, even if someone else made your backup disc for you.

    Update:

I finally got La Pucelle Tactics to play with video. On a hunch I decided to switch my component cables with my composite cables and it worked! The downside is that it won't look as good without the component cables. I wonder if this happens to an original copy as well.

This is very strange, as component signals as used in NTSC regions correspond to the RGB signals as used in PAL regions, and which I use myself when playing 'La Pucelle' as well as the other Nippon Ichi games. Are you sure you set up your System Configuration properties correctly, in the main menu of the PS2 ?

This would be a good point for someone else with an NTSC setup to chime in, to report on his results with component cables for this game. Since I only have PAL equipment without component inputs I am unable to test this properly for you.

    Best regards: dlanor
