OK, I'm very new at this and I've read most everything on this and other sites and I'm still somewhat confused. I don't want to try the memory card exploit until I'm sure what I'm doing. I have the original HDLoader disc, hard drive, and the usb AR Max Drive. Could someone please explain exactly what I need to do in very easy to understand terms. Like I said I'm very new at this and not too knowledgeable about computers. I've backed up many of my favorite games on my hard drive already but I'd like to use the MC exploit so I can stop the disc from spinning and to make sure my HDLoader disc doesn't get scratched up anymore than it already is. It was loose in the case when it was shipped to me and got kind of scratched up. If someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my PS2 is not modded.

Well in your situation, you NEED:
    *Ps2 (Not slimline)
*Independence Exploit Installer Disc (I would link to the tutorial on my site, but its down, and some people on this forum dont like me linking)
*HDLoader tutorial (Very Simple, so I'll paste it here)
    1) Run HDLoader(Or hdadvance) Original CD
    2) Insert a game disc (Yes, a GAME disc) and then press install, and it will say checking disc and then ask to type in a name.
    3) Swap the GAME disc for your Independence Exploit installing disc which you somehow managed to make, and then type in a name, like "Exploit"
    4) After it has copied, highlight it in the list, and press "x" to "Play"
    5) Your screen should say something to the effect of "Your exploit has been installed successfully"

I am not sure if that is exactly correct cause I have never done it before, just read about it!

    Hope I helped a bit :/

JACK, I've read the turorial several times but I'm still not sure about a few things. Do I have to make an exploit installing disc or is it possible to load all the necessary files on a pen drive (AR Max Drive) and install them on the memory card that way?

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Yes u need either to make a exploit cd-r OR transfer the files using AR Max pendrive.

If u make a exploit-cd-r (like described in the tutorial) u can boot it from your ps2-hd.
To get it to your hd u must either:
install it by swappin' (1) or copy using pc (2)

    (1) Install using swap:
    Boot HDloader
swap in your exploit-cd-r like so:
    http://www.success-hk.com/manual/slide-tool/index.htm
and copy it to your ps2-hd.

    (2) Copy the exploit-cd to the ps2-hd using your pc:
Your insert the ps2-hd on the internal IDE-cable or use a external hd enclosure (usb/firewire).
Once the ps2-hd is hook up to your pc (dosnt show up as a hd in windows - but ist there). To copy the exploit cd (cd-r or iso/cue/bin-file) to your ps2-hd u must use software like PS2 HDD Utillity or WinHIIP.

Once on your ps2-hd u can run the exploit using hdloader.
REMEMBER: u must only have one memorycard in your ps2 when u run the exploit-cd from hd.
When installing u get a black screen saying somethin' like "installing" (wait untill its done. Thats is.

If u wanna do the AR Max pendrive thing, u must first compile your files into a AR-save and transfer (using pendrive) to the memorycard. Look at http://www.exploitstation.com
I believe they have some premade saves u can use (and tools and stuff).

In the end u Boot your real ps1 game, and it should boot into your software from memorycard.

Thanks for the info, I really do appreciate it. I'll check out the pendrive method first and hopefully I can get it to work. It seems like a little easier method for me to try. If I have any other questions I hope you don't mind me asking for more help. Thanks again.

The pendrive method is easiest, the files for it are further down in the post of the tutorial.

Can you screw up a memory card doing this ? I did the pendrive thingy and the ps1 disc wont boot anything but when i try to delete the corrupt data it wont let me.

I have extra cards .... i got the .max file from the guide and added hdloader.elf to it and uncrushed it but it still doesnt work. Do i need to copy it to a specific part of the MC ? I seem to be missing something somewhere.
