I am wondering if it is possible at all to install ps2linux on a ps2 without the use of a mod chip. I have both ps2linux discs as backups, but the problem arises when trying to insert a disc during installation, it doesnt reconize it as a ps2 disc. I enter cd 1, during installation it tells me to insert cd 2, and im trying to think of how i can fool it into thinking its the real disc. Im thinking maybe put in swap magic, let it spin for a second or two, then quickly pop in the backup will let it read it? I know having a modchip would solve this problem, but im wondering if it is at all possible to do so without one. Anyone help me out here?

its possible... you need to use cerf4's rte linux disc. when you do this instead of installing everything from the second dvd, it looks for an nfs share from a remote computer (wich you set up yourslef). you will have to set up an nfs server on another machine and share the dvd drive in wich your ps2 linux dvd 2 is in. i know if sounds complicated but once you find the modified rte.. or modify it yourself you will understand. you can also pm me if you would like more info or for help finding the right files. hope this helps..

I tried searching for cert4 rte cd but no luck.

However, I am assuming it has to do with system.cnf on DVD1 to boot dvd2? Have to edit it to direction it to remote computer? If I am correct. What would be apporiate coding for it? And how to set up remote computer?

If I am wrong, then how do I edit that to do that method?

I would really like to try this method.

    Thanks in advance.

i have'nt done any of this but try using Host:\ as the path in the system.cnf and then the location of the cd..
For example: "host:\F:" (F: being your cd drive) or something like this... experiment with it and you'lll know... but i'm assuming that its supposed to be done this way...
