hey, I got free mcboot on my ps2 memory card, and I have installed the swap magic 3.8 elf into it too. The free mcboot, sms, hdloader, esr, ulaunch works great. The swapmagic 3.8 elf itself boots up. It goes to the splash screen, I can get to the code menu and all. The problem I have is that I can not boot my backup games with this swap magic elf for some reason. Here is what happens:

    I turn on ps2,
boot up swap magic 3.8 elf
put in xenosaga or gta3 to refresh the TOC
    swap out my backup games
    normal boot, default videosetting
it says "booting disk, no cheats"

When I boot, the game does not boot, and it just goes back to the free mcboot menu (the booting did not work), any ideas?

I can't help you fix swapmagic, I can only suggest that maybe CogSwap will work better?

Have you checked the sensors ? Are all correctly blocked ? If not it won't work.

It's better to start up the PS2 with an original game in the drive then start SM 3.8.

Maybe you have to change some setting in FMCB configurator so that the original game won't be started directly when the PS2 is powered on.

Try it this way. For me it works

Is there any way to make this a two step process ?

    So instead of :

    1. Input Swap Disk ( or run elf )
    2. Insert original game
    3. Insert backup

    to make it

    1. Input Swap Disk ( or run elf )
    2. Insert backup ( patched, rebuilt whatever..to skip the TOC error )

Yeah..i know ESR..but what about SCPH 9000x ? I saw people swap only once having the Flip Top Cover , but is it the same without it and just the magic switch ? Or with just the ELF ?
Why do some people make 2 stept and others 3 ? That's what i'm intrigued about .

I never swap myself, so I don't know what applies to all situations, but it is obvious that those who use an SM elf instead of real SM discs must use the 3-step method, as just launching an elf does not provide the mechacon with disc validation and a 'high' TOC. So those users must insert an original game disc with high TOC before they can swap to a backup disc.

And it is also obvious that all SM users must have some kind of sensor modification, to be able to swap at all without mechacon demanding new validation. Whether this mod includes Flip-Top or other methods doesn't really matter, though some methods give more convenient swapping than others. (The forced tray ejection is probably the worst of all, as it damages both the discs and the CDVD drive slightly for each swap.)

You can't do this! Unlike USBAdvance/HDL, Swapmagic relies on other files (Like it's IOPRP20.img image for IOP reset)

The physical Swapmagic disc(DVD and CD-ROM) is intended to trick the Mecacon into thinking that your backup disc has a valid "security code" near it's hub so you can't just boot the ELF without it's physical disc! This is also the reason why you cannot just burn a copy of Swapmagic and expect it to work.

Also, the Swapmagic ELF may not be designed to load from other devices than cdrom0:.

BTW FMCB may be also partly to blame. It caused my PS2link setup to break, so it may actually conflict with Swapmagic.

If you really want to have such a setup you stated, you may be better off with ESR, but I do not know how that really works.

Ok, you seemed to be confused here. The flip top is for ALL slim consoles(This was an older product than the Magic Switches), and for those who rather not install the Magic Switches. You need to have EITHER a Magic Switch or Flip-top setup installed pior to using Swapmagic.

I am using 3.6 JPN, and did not need Cogswap (Which fixes certain game compatibility issues with old Swapmagic versions), so your 3.8 should not need it, although I heard that 3.8 had more compatibility problems than 3.6 (TOC size problems, but I do not know it's degree of incompatibility).

Thatīs interesting. Which version caused it?
    ....and how?

    I thought he had a 70k with myth-chip?!
Maybe he has another 90k (which probably also isnīt compatible to FMCB).

Right, but the flip-tops were available, before there even was a slim.

I have Swap Magic 3.8 elf installed on my memory card was checking how to use it, and seems to be the same as the swap magic DVD or CD to work. in the swap magic, we must, take. out, the DVD without activating the censors then put the backup games to play. in this case we have to put an original game with high TOC. then. do the same as the
Swap Magic DVD or CD. we must, take out the game without activating the censors. the only,
way to do it is to remove the front cover of the ps2 with a Slide Tool we extract. The tray then. , Take. The Game out then we put the backup games. or modify your console to do the change
