Help with PS1 exploit –
02-22-2009,10:40 PM
I am attempting to use the PS1 exploit to install FMCB to my PS2. I have done everything by the letter based on the tutorial up to the part where you run the exploit with the PS1 game (if it matters, I am using crash bandicoot), but instead of the exploit running, it just runs the game. I have double checked and everything is loaded onto the memory card that should me, the 'New_File' is in place there. For all intents it should work, but it is not.
It is probably important to say that I am doing this with a slimline model SCPH-77001, and the tutorial says slims won't work, but it didn't say why so I figured I'd try. I got the 'New_File' to uncrush to the memory card just fine with action replay though so I don't know how it being a slim is causing it to not run the exploit. If it is the slim I do know a friend with an old fat PS2 that I could try it on. I assume if I successfully did it there then I could continue to do things on the slim then after FMCB is installed right?
Whatever help is much appreciated.

The PSX exploit DOES NOT work on slims.

slim ps2's can not use the ps1 exploit for one main reason. It relies on a file called TITLE.DB the fat ps2's had a function that would access this file if a ps1 game was inserted. a homebrew one was created to essentially hijack the system if a game (who's ID was inserted into the system,) would launch a program called BOOT.ELF. This was completely removed by sony in the slim line models.

That is all I needed to know, the why it doesn't work on slims. Thanks for the information. Now I just want to clarify something. If I were to use a friend's fat PS2 to install FMCB on my MC, I could then just use that MC with FMCB with my slim console and it would work from then right since it is already modded? (Like I said earlier it is a SCPH-77001 model so it shouldn't have the problems the 9000x series do).

As Long as both yours and your friends consoles are the same region...DJ
