help with hardware issue in V12 PS2 slim

i have had a working PS2slim with swapmagic and homemade "tools" to make games work for the past 2 years. in the last two months, only the outer edges of some games won't load (games over 4GB)

in this install, they call the part I am having trouble with the disc break/ DVD tray tab
*again this is for a slim PS2 and the image that shows it is on page 4 of the link.

apparently if the Disc break is not tightly pushed over, the DVD laser won't be able to read the outer edges of DVDs.

so my problem is that even though i push the disc break over as far as possible with my finger its not reading some of the outer edges of the 4GB+ sized games during gameplay.

any suggestions for issues with the disc break?

The disc break has nothing to do with the laser not reading the edge of the disc. In fact, the disc break is just a plastic tab on a spring. And for the slim tool mod, it's like a switch, either it work or doesn't there's no in between.

Not reading the edge of the disc may cause by mechanical problems or a failing laser. Try one of those methods where you use DMC or GTA to refresh the TOC and see what happens.

what "mechanical" problems do you suggest?
because its not a TOC refresh issue. games are only 4.1GB and still not reading the outer edge...
for example i can play tomb raider anniversary 4.6 GB for a while, but when the laser goes for information near the edge... it just keeps loading... or with guilty gear XX AC 4.1GB i can play for a while until the game accesses outer edged information

How do you know that the problem occurs when laser reads the outer edge? Do you watch the actuall laser head move to the outside when you have problems?

He can probably see the red light from the laser thru the disc but this doesn't sound right. You need to clean/adjust your laser or try burning at slower speeds with high quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
