Help on a few major things
Help on a few major things –
I am not new to hacking consoles, ( Iam an Admin @ pspforums.com) nor am I new to hacking computers. I've been doing this stuff since I was 5 and can follow instructions as long as they're not totally in geek-speak
Okay, so a few questions, and I could use complete detailed answers please:
1. Can I format a regular Hard drive in PS2 format using my computer, and not the PS2? I have no mod chip and no Ps1 Dick to do the swaploit trick.
2. Is there any other way to do the swap trick without a Ps1 disk and a mod chip?
3. What program do I use to run backups off my PS2 once I get the HDD up and running?
4. I've heard of a program called HDD loader, which you can burn to a DVD or CD and use for the swap trick, is this true?
5. Is there any other way to open the drive other than the slide too. Like with a screwdriver or something?
Thanks in advance, 3ncryption
2) yes older versions of gameshark 2 or swapmagic
4)HDLoader can not be used for swapping, only for playing games from the hdd...besides, you need a pressed disk (not burned) to swap with, so burning it would do no good even if it was possible.
5) You can get a flip top or just keep your ps2 "open" and remove the top half and cd drive cover each time you want to swap...but that's a pain in the ass. Also you don't actually need a slide tool, a butter knife will work.
Okay, I've got WinHIIP, but it doesn't give a format disk option. What am I doing wrong?
I also have HD loader, but how do I get that onto my HD once it's formatted correctly?
If I have the HD working, I don't need to do the swap trick right? I've got PoP T2T backed up from my collection on my computer, so I'd just put that on the HD and run it right? Using WinHIIP?
yeah it does, its labelled "Format Drive".
u dont put hdloader on the hard drive, hdloader is what you run each time in the ps2 to make the hard drive work.
no, u put it on the hard drive using winhiip and put it in your ps2 and run it using hdloader.
Search, theres tutoorials on it somewhere, i found out using the search button i think.
Ok, so I've got it formatted. So, here's my final two questions. I don't need a detailed answer, just the basics. What do I do, with the HDLoader programs, PS2, and the HD to get a game to run off the HD. All I need is basics
eg: Put disk in PS2, load, remove disk without opening, place other disk inside, load from HD. or somwthing like that.
Also. if I burn that swap disk program or whatever to a DVD, will it allow me to play burned games that way?
An unmodified ps2 will *only* boot pressed games first. No burnt cd or dvd can be booted without first booting a pressed disk. Just FYI.
IIRC from when I helped my friend set up the exploit, you need to add something to the memory card before the exploit will work. It goes something like this: a modified file in a memory card will redirect the loading of a specific ps1 game elf to instead load a file of your choosing, whether off of the MC or the HDD. How I set it up was to put keylauncher (or its equivalent) as the redirected ELF that will be loaded instead of the official ps2 game elf. That way you can set up anything you want from within keylauncher, whether it be hdloader, SMS, cogswap, etc.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that unless you have some way of putting a file onto your memory card, you will not be booting anything except originals. Good luck.
putting something on the memory card hmm. If I format the HDD for the PS2, can I put a file on that, then transfer it to the memory stick?
And will a Gameshark Version 2 PS2 disk work to load games?

I am unaware of any way to transfer a file from the hardrive to the MC using proprietary ps2 software. There are of course homebrew file managers, but the ps2 doesn't even recognize a winhiip/hdloader formatted HDD, so there is no way to view or copy files from it.
What about a PSP. I've got one, is it possible to transfer files via USB to the memory stick?
