The main reason why many people prefer an old 'fat' console model is that these have an internal HDD drive bay which can be used together with the network adapter add-on to install an IDE-connected HDD. That is the kind of HDD required for using HDLoader/HDAdvance, which allows the majority of all PS2 games to run from HDD.Quote:

As far as I know the new bios was released ONLY to stop the Memento (and thus also FMCB+ESR) method of launching copied games, and that this was done at the demands of the game developers/suppliers. Otherwise no bios update would have been made.
