Hard drive required?
Hard drive required? –
Okay, I have an unmodded v4 PS2. A buddy of mine loaded the necessary files onto a memory card for me, and set it up to boot with an old PS1 game I had lying around.
So, I put the mc in, boot that PS1 game, and it boots the exploit. I select CDLoader, which tells me to swap the discs. I put in a backup (CDR or DVD-R, doesn't matter), and get INVALID MEDIA. Several that I tried were working backups back when I had a NeoKey installed, so I don't think media is an issue.
Here's my first question: I know my buddy has a hard drive in his PS2. I do not. Is that a requirement? From what he told me, I don't think the HD comes into play with the sequence I described above ... but I'm not sure where the INVALID MEDIA thing is coming from.
By the way, a search for INVALID MEDIA turned up one similar complaint, which appeared to be solved, but no details of the solution were ever posted.
sigh...these things are common knowledge. you need to press eject and put in a an orginal ps2 dvd game then press X then swap to play dvd burned games or just swap right after loading CDloader if you wanna boot burned cdr.
And, presumably you're talking about swapping using a flip top or other method (in other words, not using the eject button )?
Thanks for the info ... unfortunately, I've not found a good concise FAQ or other resource for people who don't have the "common knowledge" yet. I appreciate you taking the time to educate me where others would probably just ignore the n00b.
No, when swapping games, you sometimes have to press the eject button. Mostly for dvd games. When you boot up using the exploit, the ps2 is still in psone mode. By swapping a regular ps2 dvd disk by pressing the eject button, you put the ps2 in ps2 dvd mode. After you have put in the regular dvd game, use the swap trick (flip top or otherwise) to put in your burned game.
Got it, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
