Easy Question about playing from HD

My Set up
NA(US) V1 PS2 (Serious lol)
Network Adapter
Random HD's that fit.

Up until now i am able to play PSX backups and PS2 Backups using the old gameshark cog-swap technique. I would like to start playing DVD backups and from my research the only way i can do(without modding) is with the HDLoader.
I believe first i need to get Independance Exploit working, will i be able to get this working how i used to boot up my other games using the gameshark?

After independance exploit is working then do i just go through with all the tutorials for HDs?

Can anyone give me a hand! its been 2 years since i was into the ps2 dev scene...

well to answer my question
i loaded gameshark, tried to use exploit didnt work
loaded gameshark, booted cd loader then exploit and worked :P

now just trying to figure out how hdloader works!

good work, thats how all gamesharks/codebreakers work for all HDloaders. boot gameshark, select game, boot HDLoader disc, select game.
