I downloaded swap magic 3.6 and have a modded ps2. Can I make an mc exploit or do I need the pressed disc? Also will it work for all versions of the ps2?

You CAN NOT use a downloaded version of SM to run backups, you need to buy the real thing.

just make yourself a cd with whatever homebrews you want on it and boot it straight up... with a modchip there's no problems!

if you're too lazy to do that, might i suggest the one here:
    http://sms.psx-scene.com/eng/cdimage.htm

that's got ulaunchelf on it, which is a really handy launcher. with that, you can then just stick your homebrew elf files on a USB thumb drive and boot them off there. or copy them to your PS2 memcard (i reccommend putting them into the BEDATA-SYSTEM folder, unless you want it to show up as corrupt data in the browser)

it also contains sms media player to play divx and mp3 off usb, hdd, cd/dvd and network, though neither ulaunch nor sms on that disc image are the latest.

that page also has instructions on how to make your own bootable homebrew cd.
