    Short answer: No.

    Long answer:
Well, there were certain parts on older PS2 units (NV-RAM circuit, and the OSD update function that is exploited by FMCB) that suggested that the firmware could be upgraded(officially), but no official firmware updates were released by Sony for any PS2 version. Therefore unlike the PSP, the PS2's BIOS is largely "un-upgradable" as of today.

Also, as stated by the FMCB developers, the 9000x series with BIOS version 230 has it's updating routines disabled, but still present in ROM. So either way, regardless of whatever version of PS2 you are using, you cannot change the BIOS your unit is using easily (Unless yours is a SCE prototype that can have it's BIOS upgraded, but you still need the upgrading program which nobody outside SCE has.).

Therefore if you need/want to run homebrew on a 9000x series with BIOS version 230, you would most likely have to use a Swapmagic setup, or get your PS2 mod-chipped. However, since your model has BIOS version 230, you may want to check if it's not the "cursed" version (Some BIOS version 230 models seem to be able to use FMCB).

grey answer is yes. you must desolder the BIOS chip from the motherboard and solder on a lower version chip from another motherboard.

If you have any hard info on that subject please share it in detail, since I never heard of any such thing before.

What we all know is that some SCPH-900xx consoles can use FMCB, but that is only because their ROMs contain v2.20 of the bios. As far as I am aware there is only one bios v2.30, and that was released specifically to kill the Memento softmod (and thus FMCB as well, since they use the same bios feature for booting). So there is no way any console with that bios can boot FMCB.

    Thatīs not true.
    There were different updates, like
-DVD-Player/Remote-Update (needed for old versions, but the dvd-player-updatefunction is integrated up to bios 2.20).
    -OSDSYS/Browser2.0-Update
    -others?!
    PS2 V7/DMS3 V2 (FW:2.4b7); Seagate Baracuda 200GB
    PS2 V7/CC1.0 (FW:34 hacked v2 BM:2.1.6); Maxtor DiamondMAX9 PLUS 160GB
    PS2 SCPH-30004R; NoMod+NoLaser

    3xSony BBA
    3xSony MC 8MB
    MAX/Datel 16MB with Boot-CD
    MAX/Datel 32MB&64MB

    Custom FMCB 1.8b+ Beta-Build, my AIO 0.5, Sony&xRhino-Linux

But neither of those are a replacement for the bios. They only exist to provide enhanced versions of two highly specific sub-applications of the bios. Outside of those two applications, no upgradability exists.

There never has been any real upgrade for the real bios functions, and never will.

The closest you can get is in fact the Sony device drivers and function libs provided on most commercial game discs, since those are loaded into RAM as session-temporary replacements for several of the built-in drivers and function libs of the bios. But these are no true replacement, since they rely on the real bios for loading in each game session, and can never be used for other purposes than the game they come with (except as modified by hacking).

But the real point here is that there is NO way for a recent customer buying an SCPH-900xx console with bios v2.30 to downgrade that so as to use FMCB. And that is what this thread is all about. So we should just come straight out and tell the guys that this is not going to happen.

Possibly some other exploit may be found to work on those consoles, but the current FMCB simply won't do it.

    Best regards: dlanor

It was just to correct his statemment, that these upgrade-functions never deserved any official upgrade.
It just wasnīt used much/(a)lot spreaded.

I see the point you guys saying, no downgrade bios.
thanks, by the way I went to a console game dealer yesterday
to buy some game and I was offered by the guy a new HD PRO for 9000x series !!!
the price is Rp. 1.150.000 (about US $100) that's include 160 Gb 3.5" HDD and
attachable bottom casing for the ps2 (and labor fee inc.).
he said there are 2 type, RED BOX for 9000x and BLUE BOX for 7xxxx one.
he said that this upgrade allowed me to use HDLOADER to play and the speed is
the much faster loading than DVD (not like usb-loader).
I'll go and buy one for my 9000x next month and he said I can still use the DVD to play
game or movie which is great.
