SwapMagic 3.3 CD/DVD and possibility to boost TOC
SwapMagic 3.3 CD/DVD and possibility to boost TOC –

//Edit: All done, nothing left to answer, i'll start a new thread for things left. But feel free to add related questions and topics.
Hi 2 all!
I'll explain my intentions first, so it's more easy to understand what i want. Goal is to boot DVD backups of the largest TOC without a orginal PS2 Game and/or the orginal SwapMagic Disc in the tray (of course only if they are compatible) by booting SM from USB HD on a PS2 using the exploit.
//Edit: This seems to be impossible for DVD but may work an CD Images
I got "SwapMagic 3.3 CD" working on MC and USB HD. As far it's the most compatible SwapLoader at pressent, i thought it would be nice to boot it directly
. I also tried with SM3.6 CD/DVD but everytime i try to start from MC or USB HD the title screen shows up and disappear immediately leaving a black screen to my TV, guess it's some kind of DVD/CD check, for if i burn it to disc and run it in my modded PS2 it works. But as far there were no compatibility enhancements since 3.3 i don't care pretty much.
But let's come to my questions.
- What's the difference between the Swap Magic DVD and CD Version?
I wouldn't wonder if it's only the TOC seize, but if someone can say a little more about that would be great!
//Edit: My coding skill is far to weak (especially on PS2dev) to take appart the content of the SM CD/DVD
but on the first look it seem to have a different assembly structure.
//Edit2: According to the "Directboot_notes" includet in the src pack of zoneloader the structure of CD and DVD
have to be different for the ability of auto-boot. - If Swap Magic DVD with high TOC is installed on USB HD, will it accept the TOC from the image
or do i have to refresh the TOC using a original PS2 DVD?
//Edit: Installing the original SwapMagic DVD to USB HD fails. Installing a CDGenPS2 rebuild image
of the SM33.ELF filled up to 4.37 with fake files works, but still need original PS2 DVD to refresh TOC.
I guess editing the treefile manualy to increase the TOC would be the same result.
- How about boost the TOC seize to max (4.37GB) by rebuilding the Image with CDGenPS2 or some other CDVDGen
before install it to USB HD? Not really necessary, but would spare TOC refreshment for at least 20 games.
//Edit: Rebuild the Image for a higher TOC is useless as far there seems to be no TOC check on HD content.
Somebody know how to trick that eventualy?
That's seems to be different with CD Backups, i've read a little but not enough to say much about right now. - Is it correct that all Swap Loaders use the TOC Method?
//Edit: To boot backup DVD all Loaders seems to use the TOC Method. - Is it right that CDLoader/CogSwap/ZoneLoader & Co. are only usable in combination with SwapMagic?
If yes, how to use'em from MC?
//Edit: No, that's not true. You can use several Loader as stand alone swap application, so booting from
MC/USB/HD can be pretty handy, even you have to swap in your backups after refreshing TOC with orig. PS2 DVD. - Is it true that ZoneLoader boots nearly all backups DVDLoader does with one swap less?
//Edit: Found out this one myself - According to some threads it's true, but i don't get it? Someone wrote he had load
SM first then swap to CDLoader and put SM in again. Oh...think i got it...he uses SM for TOC refreshment. But he also
write that with ZoneLoader the last step isn't required?
I've read that this is possible on CD's but DVD's?
Okay, that's all so far.
