In desperate need of help.. PS2 DVD-R loading

I have an old school, first gen V1.0 PS2 modified with like the very first ps2 mod chip, and I believe a gameshark 1.3 or 1.4 (can't remember, whichever is the best of the bunch back then.) I am trying to load Tekken5 and for the life of me cannot remember how to load DVD games with my setup. I have the Devil May Cry Demo DVD and I am loading the gameshark to the boot screen, hitting eject, putting in the DMC Demo, letting it read the TOC, going to without codes, it asks to put in the game and I hit the eject button, put in Tekken5, close the tray, and get nothing.

I remember from a loooooooong time ago I used to hold the reset button in to load games, but I think that was for EA games only. What is the CORRECT method to load DVD-R's with my setup? I've searched the web high and low and cannot find a method that works.

What do you guys recommend I upgrade to mod-chip wise? I was thinking of just getting the magic swap cd's and being done with it. I like having my games on disc's so I pretty much ruled out the hd loader.

Id guess this is where it goes wrong (when u hit eject)

I think u have some kind of cheat-mod where u can swap in a backup without the ps2 knowing. Like The Neo-mod : U keep pressing eject until tray opens automaticly for 5 seconds and u can swap in your backup and it closes automaticly again (so u gotta be fast).

So what u do is:
1. Boot gameshark
2. Choose "no cheats enabled"
3. Press eject (tray opens)
4. Insert DMC Demo
5. Press eject (tray closes)
6. Wait a few second (toc is read)
7. swap in your backup somehow(swapkey/fliptop or other .... like neomod)
8. Once u got your backup into the ps2 (without the ps2 knowing) press x and it should boot.
