Castlevania: SotN NTSC/J Import Swap problem
Castlevania: SotN NTSC/J Import Swap problem –
Greetings, I am very new to the PS2 Development and Import Scene.
I recenly purchased an Original copy of the NTSC/J version of Castlevania: SotN for my fiancee as a present. My neighbor who also collects Japanese games gave me his copy of Swap Magic 3.3 with Slide Card as he just bought a Japanese PS2 for himself and no longer needed it. When I try to load Castlevania using Swap Magic 3.3 and the Slide Card I get an error message that says "Not a valid PS2 disc" I tried this on two different PS2's and always receive the same error. After reading through some forums I attempted to use Final Fantasy VIII Disc 1 as a larger TOC disk (I have absolutly no idea what this does or even if it is necessary) and it still did not boot. I have done numerous searches as to why "Not a valid PS2 disc" errors occur and 99% of the topics that I read were concerning "Back-Ups" not Original discs and almost all of them were concerning PS2 games not PSX games. As a last ditch effort I attempted to play the game using an emulator but it was just too laggy and I could not seem to get the controller setup the way my fiancee wanted it. So now I am really stuck in the dog house, because I ruined her entire weekend, she planned her entire weekend around playing SotN and I can't get it to work. I have been fiddling with it for nearly 5 hours now, Please help I am really desperate and I don't know where else to turn.
Thanks in advance!!!
Castlevania: SOTN is a PS1 game. Swap magic disks are used to boot copied PS2 games. I think there is a way to do it still with something like Keylauncher (which is flakey at best for launching PS1 games), but your honestly MUCH better off getting a modchip. Purchaseing the Japanese version doesn't make much sense since the US version is just as readily available and I'm betting she probably isn't the best at Japanese which makes the game a little less enjoyable. The only Castlevania: SOTN that you would wanna get the Japanese release for is the Castlevania: Dracula X on Saturn (Yum!) since it has extra areas & stuff they pulled from the PS1 version.
If you have a moded xbox though you can get a PSX emulator for it that will play the game pretty damn well (will have to rip it to an ISO though and put it on the Xboxes HD though which is a whole nother can of worms).
Thank you Kermit, I had no idea that the Swap Magic CD boot disc would only work for PS2 CD based games, I assumed since all PS1 games were CD based that is how I would boot them. Knowing that makes me feel a lot better.
She actually really wanted the Japanese version of SotN, she played through the original US release numerous times in the past and then somehow when she was moving it disappeared so this time she wanted the Japanese version. Ironically, I was able to get it from a Japanese seller on e-Bay for less then a used copy of the US GH SotN. I do not own a Saturn but I am very interested in the Saturn Castlevania: Dracula X, perhaps when Yabause gets more customizable and stable, I might venture to obtain that one.
I have do some more research. I heard that some versions of the Action Replay can be used with the Swap Trick maybe I will try that out.
Thanks again Kermit.
