    Hey guys,

    I'm new so go easy

I have a US FAT PS2 and I'll soon be getting some Japanese original PS2 games that I want to play.

I have a PS2 Linux kit also, so I have a method of being able to easily copy data into the protected areas of the memory card - so I can implement the Independence Day exploit..

But once I get to that stage I have no idea what to do..
    What apps do I need?
Am I best running the imported game from the hard drive? (I don't really want to do slide card tricks)
If I am to run it from the hdd - can I use the official PS2 hdd (with Final Fantasy XI on it) without formatting it?

I could really use your help, in absolute n00b language

    Thanks in advance

If you want to play your original Japanese games, I know no way which doesn't need swapping, or re-burning it as an ESR-Disc.

So,... You need either an original PS2-Disc to swap with, or you use FMCB+ESR.

I have a PS2 Linux kit also, so I have a method of being able to easily copy data into the protected areas of the memory card - so I can implement the Independence Day exploit..
I'm not sure, what you meant about the "protected areas of the memory card", but if you can run the PSX-Exploit you can install FMCB (no need for a PSX-Disc, to trigger anymore) + ESR (reburn your japanese original as an ESR-Disc/patched Disc and run it with FMCB and you're fine, I think.)

But once I get to that stage I have no idea what to do..

If you don't wanna mess with the slide-s...tuff, just use ESR to boot your backups and FMCB to boot Homebrew from MC, without anything additional (or with USB-Stick, if wanted).

Using an HDD is a good choice for preserving your laser-quality.
Most games run flawlessly from an internal HD.
Those which don't run, might with ESR directly from the DVD-Drive.

If I am to run it from the hdd - can I use the official PS2 hdd (with Final Fantasy XI on it) without formatting it?
If I remember right you could, without re-formating, but I don't know about your Linux. :-/
I know, that it is possible to have both on HD, but it's a bit long-winded process.

-You need to dump your Linux-Partition, to a binary image (usually over LAN).
-Then format the HD (just use WinHIIP)
[-create all partitions you need/want (equal if "__", or "+")]
-About the partition-image,... Dump it back to your PS2-HD

Don't know about your "Final Fantasy XI".

I could really use your help, in absolute n00b language

    Thanks in advance
