    Hello,

I bought a PS2 flip top cover and Swap magic ( 2.0 DVD, 3.2 CD ) on Thursday so I will be recieving it some time next week. This weekend I will be reading up on what I will need to do to run backups on my PS2.

I just wanted to know if there are any tips that you guys could give me to help me get over the learning curve ASAP.

I have a version 1 ( bought it the day it came out in the US ) PS2.

Since some games won't boot using swap magic, you will want to look into the memcard exploit (cogswap). Games that won't boot using SM will boot using cogswap...or cd/dvdloader as a substitute.

If you got the clear blue case like me you might wanna think about lighting. Some people see it as a waste but some want the eye candy. It's up to you. I got two cold cathodes on my v4 and so far nothing on my PSTwo (is that like v12?).

If u intend to play a lot of dvd-rips (you know ... those ones u can dl from the net or make yourself) u should get a high toc ps2-cd-disc.
Most dvd-rips (cd-r) are big, like 700mb in size.
You wont be able to play any cd-r larger than 632mb-ish (theyll stop bootin if bootin at all). I estimate u can only play 1 in 3 dvd-rips without a high toc disc.

There are 2 know high toc cd-discs:
    Breaker Pro-cd and HDAdvance-cd.
I recommend the Breaker Pro-cd because u can use it to boot ps1-backups too.
HDAdvance-cd is part of the HDAdvance-set (cd+dvd) and u can use it to get your dvd-rips onto a ps2hd (if u have one).

So u can boot 99% of all dvd-rips if u do this:
    Boot sm-cd (or sm-dvd)
swap in cd-loader (or dvdloader if u booted sm-dvd)
    press x (cd-loader boots)
    press eject (tray opens)
insert your real high toc cd-disc
press eject (tray closes and reads your disc as above 632mb)
    swap in your dvd-rip (cd-r)
    press x
    and it boots

    Heres a few more links:Links
    PSP 1.52 (DG), DS 001, XBOX v1.6B+Cheapmod+120GBHD, SM33, 50004+HDA10+120GBHD, SM32, BP11, 3900X, XBOX v1.6+Softmod, P4_2.666, GBASP, GBA,Celeron_700, DC, PS1, P2_300, TI85, Saturn, GBC, GBP, Megadrive, P75, Amiga 500, MS, 486SX25, Amstrad CPC464, ZX81

    Jack,

So can I boot SM, then CD loader and the a DVD-R backup or can I only boot a CD-R game backup?

I got my flip top today and can boot up a copy of ICO I backed up but not my backup of Kingdom Hearts ( it is a PAL copy and I have a NTSC PS2 ).

Kingdom Hearts should work fine using the CDLoader, though being a PAL copy your TV might not like it.
