Sony will notice the thermal compound isn't the stock one though. Do you think they're that stupid? 
EDIT : Nvm, this is a fat 40gb, way out of warranty, so it shouldn't exactly matter to Sony. However, the whole point of saying that the warranty sticker is intact when selling an used console, is to show that the PS3 has never been opened, which is the part that matters, not the warranty sticker.
