what chips are used for these fan mods?
are they 555 timer based or are they pic12f683 using the FREE hex code over on Benheck's website (like most of them)?
I've got my own TRUE PWM manager which has 14 manual modes (5% ramp) and automatic mode (normal fan speed is set to 40% instead of 30% standard)

It uses a 555 chip, my own design. I needed something as cheap and simple as possible.
Ah thats cool mate. I've seen a lot of PIC based ones which are ripped right off Ben-Heck's forum, not even the hex code is changed (those daft enought not to CP their PIC once programmed...)
Even though the source code wasn't released, writing a simple code for ramping the PWM is pretty easy even if you know nothing about programming but are prepared to put the time in to learn a little ASM or C
Keep it up buddy![]()

Thanks, yeah, I thought about creating a PIC code. Pretty simple; like output high, count 400, output low, count 600 (40% duty pulse). But the main reason I didn't bother is PIC chips are a lot more expensive than 555 chips, which I can make do the same thing.
I now have an adjustable version with a precision trim pot:

Is this essentially the same thing as the PS3 ezChill?

I can't say exactly, I don't know how they are made or work.
I suppose they are probably similar function but mine are homemade with stable 555 timers and quality trimpots. Adjusts to any speed above mobo pulse.
Mine are 1/4 the price but do not have fan connectors, you must splice two wires... not a big deal for most people who would be buying these.
I may make a version with fan connectors (PNP). Main issue is I don't have a source or know where to source that particular connector.
My video shows exactly what my item does:

Again with function shown. Thanks.
