Its probably fake knowing ps2nfo however if its not it will only benifit the scene. I wouldnt put alot of thought into it. If its released then great.

the speeds of ethernet has to do with how hdl_server was programmed, i'm sure it could be optimized to work at greater speeds.
I don't think the network speed will get much faster the PS2 NA is a 10mbit right? On my 100mbit network it takes around 7 minutes to move a DVD image which means a 10mbit link should do it in about 70 minutes and that's pretty close to the speeds of hdl_server.
I thought that the PS2 network adapter was 100mbit.. could be wrong though. I know they don't have USB2 ports. You generally get speeds about 1/10th when you convert from mbit to MB/s.. (100mbit network can transfer at around 9.5-11MB/s, a 10mbit can get around .95-1.1MB/s) Will be nice if anyone ever figures it out. I am tempted to build a 40 pin IDE cable so I can just plug it into my computer without removing the HDD from the PS2 though, so data transfers at like 36MB/s.
10 mbits /s = 800kbytes /s
100mbits ... 800mbytes...
4gb file at 10 mbits = 87mins. near hdldumb speed
But as you can choose 100mbits and 10mbits in the network config disc (v2 and v3) from 100bits to 10mbits... I think the ps2 NA is 100mbits capable... and on my comptuer network config I can see "connected at 100mbits"
mbytes=1000*kbytes, not 10*kbytes.
the ps2 is connecting with 100mbit (thats what my switch sais), but that has nothing to say.
it could be that the network adaptor is connected with slower speed to the underlying systems in the ps2, which whould then be the networks limiting factor.
or the drivers are just too slow (ps2dev-drivers).
well they have said fusion has released the source code...
I think the slowness has to do with the controller in the PS2 NA, if it operates always at 10mbit and has no larger way of comm to the rest of the PS2 with more data. I dont doubt that the driver is under-optimized with the release of the experimental hdl_server, but really $ony had online gaming in mind and 10mbit should be sufficient for that goal with the then current gaming expectations.
Likeley that the 10/100 config is to simply make it compatible with the most common types of LAN's out there..?
Any rate, on topic: it appears that "they", well, read it for yourselves: (pls kill this post if you all don't want the source here, Im assuming by "the PS2 Community" that would include ps2scene)
Update: Tonight we received word from fusion that he has now decided to share with the PS2 community the PS2 ZoneLoader Source Code & Direct-Boot Docs for all dev'ers interested in learning (and perhaps even improving on) the methods used. We'd like to THANK fusion for SHARING, and he also mentioned if there is enough interest he may release the tool discussed at some point in the future as well. VERY cool news!
hu.. your right
