x3JailBreak (The first CLONE) declared a FAKE!

A blog site called Nyleveia, has a good write-up on why the first rumored clone (the fast photoshopped, x3jailbreak one) is a fake:

As you can see from the above image, both devices follow a similar layout with a bank of SMT’s leading to a crystal oscillator then a flash controller and lastly the SMD (Activity light). On the lower device, the flash memory itself is located on the underside of the PCB, as the many vias present in the PCB around the flash controller indicate. A similar arrangement of vias are present on the purported x3Jailbreak, leading me to believe that there is actually a flash chip present on the rear of “their PCB” too.

Upon further inspection of the original PSJailbreak, it’s obvious that its functionality is completely different from that of a normal USB drive, with ground and data being used as what I assume is a serial connection to the host. Data+ and data- of x3Jailbreaks’ PCB, however, shows me without question that the PCB they are showing off is nothing but the internals for a generic or branded-clone USB flash drive, which is further supported by x3Jailbreaks’ act of masking the flash controller’s printed ID. This chip is most likely an Alcor AU6984 flash storage controller.

There you have it. For the time being at the very least, the x3Jailbreak is fake.

It still remains to be see if the most recent claimed CLONE'd entry into this sudden PS3 market is a fake or not, the dutch have launched a site called http://PS3KEY.COM but there is nothing there yet accept a box to grab your EMAIL, for future SPAM.

What I figured! One big giveaway is the flash memory deal. The clone has it while the official PSJailbreak doesn't! This won't be the first one we'll see either!

especially after all the electronic experts came out of retirement the other night to bring us all those schematics in the original PSJailbreak thread to let us know how close they're getting to the solution. guess it was just bs like originally predicted

That post should be treated as speculation. The arguments are not conclusive at all, particularly since we can only see one side of each board (and thus can't compare any vias that might be under the chip, nor see whether or not there's actually a flash memory on the purported x3 board). A superficially similar layout proves nothing, particularly in something like a self-contained USB stick.

Still, x3 may as well be a hoax until it actually ships to somebody.

I think x3jailbreak, and ps3news is ready one and the same, they are just spreading stuff around to try to keep their traffic up, they were upset we broke the psjailbreak story first and our sponsors had samples since to them in advance. -- So they are going to try the something, instead with this so-called clone.
