I am unsure how many people are still suffering from this problem but I found a solution to my recently built refurb system.
Its not 100% for me as the system I wanted to use for online but you will see what I mean when i finish.
I found lots of mkb files and compiled a list of them in to DRL files and one by one replaced them on the ps3 via blackbox ftp, think i had about 7 to try starting from v3 and staggering to v16.
none worked at all for me.
Now i thought I would try the new firmware from rebug 3.55.2, at first when i tried bd playback it said it was prohibited, I then replaced the whole contents of the flash 3 folder with the same contents of my 80gb ps3 flash 3 folder.
Low and behold it plays bd, dvd and plays games.
I tried upgrading to 3.55 OFW but this lost it all for me.
I am unsure what the hell was going on here for it to work on rebug and then not to work on OFW, but rebug is not really ya day to day firmware is it.
Is there no way for cfw users to force flash the blu ray board with a mkb then match up the DRL files generated from the MKB on the NAND??(or am I taking total and complete rubbish here as my understanding of this problem only extends to the past 2 days worth of reading)
Hope this helps some of you for getting playback back.
Just another thought, Cant we complile a zip file with all 20 (or so i beleve there is 20 mkb versions) drl extracted files so that we can all just test one after another until we get to the one that matches up to the board in the blu ray drive??
If so I have ver 3,4,7,8,9,12,14,16. If anyone would like to add to my collection and I will make the final zip and upload.
Zero I think you have missed a few steps.
This is not about collecting DRL versions 1-20.
Each movie has it's own DRL, and if is released again, will get yet another DRL.
There are thousands of them, hundreds inside each version.
Seriously, nothing missed out, that is all i did, still unsure to why it works with rebug but not OFW.

I do not know the history of the logic board so I could be collecting drl files for an eternity and still not get anywhere.
I can confirm this on an CECHG with Rebug 3.55.2

Thanks black pat, can anyone else confirm this working with rebug 3.55-2?
We may be on to somthing here and a nice easy way to fix this problem.
I am going to have to find a copy of Harry potter or Inception as it seems these have the latest MKB ver so this may update the logic board and give us the much needed drl files.
"Wonder if this finding will reach the front page?????"
@Zero: I tried it and it didnt work. As soon as i return to OFW, BluRay playback is gone
Maybe this is expected and the check is disabled on Rebug FW.
Mmmmmmm, interesting. When I first installed rebug it said playback prohibited, but I put the drl files from my 80gb on it and it worked. Surely if the check was disabled the error would never have came up.
