Question: Does the /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 file contents have to be from the actual unit before it was upgraded to 3.50 (are the files in there specific to THAT particular PS3 that it came from), or could you use 3.41 files from another PS3 that's never been downgraded and currently resides at 3.41 naturally (from a normal firmware update from Sony)?
I presume that the data in these two flashes are specific to each unit, but I thought I'd pose the question.
I'm kindof a noob at this, but when i tested out the downgrader this morning (on 3.41 to start with... i was curious!!), it nuked my /dev_flash2/drm/psn/act_*.dat file on /dev_flash2, preventing me from playing the handful of PSN games i had d/l. I have a backup of my flash* dirs on-hand, so i tried to replace it... but discovered i could no longer access /dev_flash2 or /dev_flash3, with anything! No Comgenie FM, no Multiman, not even via Blackbox FTP. I could only get access to those partitions back by downgrading further back (to 2.6something), then upgrading to 3.41 (non-modified ver.) Replaced the act*.dat file, didn't help get any of my games back. So now i'm stuck on 3.5 with now-working PSN games, waiting for it to be jailbroken...
I performed this downgrade last night and have just checked my UK PS3 for this issue and i notice that the first BD i tried....Batman Begins does not play and comes up with an error code but the rest of my discs play fine.
I performed a backup onto an external drive before i downgraded and restored after.
Would this have saved my dev_flash2 and dev_flash3?
I've been keeping up with this, and it seems there is a solution to fixing it, it's still being test though, I guess they are trying to keep it from doing something else.
I downgraded an european console (80GB fat model) from 3.41 to 3.15 today with psgrade and official 3.15 pup (unmodified). My two blu ray video discs still play on it (Avatar and Sunshine).
This is interesting.
Does this inability to play bluray movies after a downgrade have something to do with the device you're using? Seems odd that I'm reading reports that people can play movies after a downgrade, yet this one clearly shows that someone IS having problems.
Wonder what the real 411 is on this.
Downgrade to 3.15 then update to 3.41 and everything will work
