WARNING: 3.42/3.50FW consoles spotted in the wild!

Just got my PlayStation 3 160 GB Black Friday Bundle w/ Uncharted 2, Pixel Junk Shooter, Karate Kid Blu-Ray, and $25 Video Game Credit from Amazon. It came with a sticker on the bottom of the box over the original barcode. Firmware is 3.50. It's ok though since I have another fat PS3 with FW 3.15 to play with. This slim one will be dedicated PSN and Netflix unless someone will jailbreak 3.50 of course

Funny part is about this deal is that everyone claimed that they got Uncharted 2 Standard and not GOTY edition and Amazon just emailed me that they are issuing a $10 credit because of that and I got the GOTY edition.

I think you need to check your facts. You're basically saying Sony is selling refurbished goods as NEW which would be fraud, and on a large scale. This is total bullshit.

I do not believe STICKER = REFURB. There are plenty of reasons why a UPC would be stickered and refurbishing isn't the only one.
Consider that a lot of these bundles are basically 160GB console boxes with a slot inside to stick a game in as part of a sales promotion, and voila a new bundle is born and the need to add another UPC.

Sure stickering the UPC may be part of the refurb process, but no way is Sony selling large batches of refurbished units as new through retailers such as Amazon.com

So lets say you get a brand new ps3 and it dies on you in 2 days or what not. When you ship it to sony for a quick turn around time they usually just ship you a new unit. They keep your old unit, send it through the "test bench" fix it and either rebox it or exchange it for someone elses who had the same issue you had.

Yes, they can deem return units "New". Especially if they just upgrade the firmware to get the unit up and running again. No blemishes, new box, new upc sticker=new ps3.

Sad but true. Companies have been doing this for years and you would never know.

sony refurb consoles have serials starting with 08 if i remember correctly, because they have their own serials to keep track of whats refurbs and whats not

and the way the pass of refurb in there exact words are, the contents is refurbished parts, test to the same full ness as brand new ones, they do have a new shell tho and u are given a 2month warranty with them and u only receieve the console in a bubblewrapped bag, in the uk if u have a fault sony wil usually replace the ps3 on the spot for u as long as u give them the old one
