i doubt that sony lost any on sales of ps3 as the president of scei said they are in the business of hardware & not following 20th century nintendo business model of loosing money on h/w & making up on s/w.
besides, ps3 is really expensive...expensive enough to cover all the manufacturing cost.
the rsx is virtually geforce 7800gtx 256mbyte in single chip + cell processor & bd processor & ps2 + bd rom + hdd.
other parts including packing/distributing=>100usd
i am being very generous on the cost & it would cost less than 600usd (i bet sony charged retailers 500+usd for each unit)
the 500musd loss is the bubble sony made up by including the cost of setting up the manufacturing & marketing (that has been done & would be done) to show how inexpensive ps3 truly is
from what sony has been done on software side, i think it has been rather smoother than before; many are thinging ms is by far the worst software developer, but japanese software companies are even worse than us/eu developers
btw, that's a lot of consoles costing 400 to 600usd to sell...i know they will be sold out.
walmart will have at least 10 units per store
i am kind of debating whether or not to try to buy one to make quick money by going to walmart
