The ppc based cell proc in the ps3 is plenty powerful. Might even have enough ram.

The trouble is that it's of PPC derivation, win7 runs on x86/x86-64(and maybe itanic?), they are different CPU architectures(RISC vs CISC) and I wouldn't expect MS to spend the time porting Windows for hobbyists.

Now though if the graphics drivers were made a ps3 running win7 could be an extremely affordable high end gaming pc.

    Just a thought.
    PowerPC + Windows? Ha lol.
And high-end gaming pc? I don't think so.
The graphics (Nvidia RSX) is based on a GeForce 7xxx (which is today too slow for gaming), no AA and only 256MB GDDR3 RAM? NO WAY
The 256MB system memory, which are maybe very very fast b/c of the XDR-DRAM, are definetly too less for gaming on Windows.

The best you are going to get is emulators for game systems and linux. Be happy with that.

For many reasons, Windows 7 (or really any windows version) will never work on the PS3 correctly or at a desirable performance level.

A PS3 today costs 300 dollars. You can buy a 300 dollar computer to run windows on it much better than it would run on a PS3.

The PS3 is simply not made for Windows.

You are clueless, the PS3's (or the 360s aswell) hardware when compared to PCs is extremely outdated, the only reason it is able to run the same games as the PC (in much worse quality) is because THE GAME is specifically designed to it.
If you are running windows on this hardware, you are running games that are made for the extremely diverse hardware PC users can have, which require far more powerful components in exchange to be able to work on so many kinds.
All this, not to mention that win 7 alone would eat up all the memory the ps3 can give.

Technically neither of you are wrong, the PS3 is too slow to run PC games and windows is compiled to run on x86 machines not PPC. So stop bitching.
