im new to all this stuff, ( i however do own the original hdl)..
anyways, since the games can now be played via an external usb harddrive, will this allow the ps2 to play back up online now that the network adapter wont be in use??

I can't see using usb 1.1 being very advantageous for loading / playing games; a storage device would probably be position to pitch the USBextreme. I despise long load times, the claim that USB 1.1 is gonna move data faster than the actual disc sounds quite odious to me.
I don't think they said that usbextreme is gonna move the data faster than to original disc, however if the speed will be comparable to original disc speed i will probably spend my money on this. I have a v12 and i was waiting a few months before modding it to see if the laser is reliable, and guess what, it is like 14 days since the my laser started having trouble reading discs. No mods/damage etc.. No my v12 is in sony service and i hope they will give me a newer one. If usbextreme is a possibility to prolong my v12's laser life i'll go for it..

hey are those cheap ass usb cases off ebay any good ( i think thier like 10 bucks)
Wow...took them this long and only have commandline...how cheap...atleast create a simple GUI already....
As much as I personally despise everything that is PS2 o w n z/nfo, I'm seriously considering the purchase of this product. Sure, it's not nearly as fast as an internal drive, but if it works as well as they claim, then I'd buy it for the pure portability factor. HDLoader had the advantage of speed, and USBExtreme has the advantage of portability.
chalk another one up for ps2ownz.. i guess these guys arent all bullshit & bannings.. except for the time when they were begging for donations and promised everything under the sun.. even a way to boot backups without a chip or swap or anything, kind of like the xbox tsop.. anyhow..
i really hate installing games over the network and through the ps2.. the network is slow & my laser is dying.. but everytime i want to install a game i have to pull the hard drive, hook it up the computer & install.. opening up your ps2 & pc is kind of a hassle.. with this usb extreme, you just disconnect it from the ps2 & connect to the PC, no need to reboot.. and if you get a usb 2.0/firewire enclosure, the thing should fly.
game loading speeds.. comporable to reading from the disc? maybe... faster than an internal hdd? not a chance..
coolness factor.. tiny ps2, small hdd enclosure.. very nice.. i'm sure someone will mod their hdd enclosure to make it more "PS2-y"..
hopefully a cracked elf hits the streets soon, i'd like to try it out on my PS2 (not PSTWO), just to check out the loading times, maybe more compatibility, etc..
if there was only a way to boot usbextreme without buying it modding you pstwo, or swapping.. that would be the sweet..
i'm not too worried about installing through the PC with this, because thats what i normally do, but it will be more convienent.. as far as the software, thats probably not going to be an issue for very long.. i'm sure some of the more advanced users in the ps2 scene will create a nice little gui to save the noobs from having a nervous breakdown.
i think i'll convince one of my friends to buy this and check it out for myself.
It is important to note that the format used in this is supposedly NOT the same as HDLoader/HDAdvance, so you're stuck using the utilities they come up with as none of the stuff made for the older programs will work with it. And, again, is is the Success company behind this product. Their discs are well-known for being poorly made and causing laser problems. Considering the already fragile state of some PsTwo lasers, this is likely to cause major problems down the road. This could be a great product or it could be nightmare, one or ther other.
Here is the format utility for those who want to look at it...
well it shouldnt be too bad, it only takes a few seconds to boot up the disc.. hopefully they have it set so that the disc stops spinning & laser goes off once its done booting..
