this is puzzling me.
the ps3 sends data back to sony about error reports and whats been running on the system will it show that a backup manager has been used???
I currently enjoy access to my backups via 3.41, Multiman and JB dongle.
if I take the plunge to 3.55 CFW
- would all my previous games, backup'd under 3.41 still work? Or do I have to rip them again under 3.55?
- Can I still use Multiman so that it is camoflaged as a game, so I can use PSN?
- Is it best to reformat the PS3 Hard-drive to remove all traces of previous homebrew/backup managers?
- Are we at a point yet, where a PS3 running CFW is undetectable by Sony? If not what things need to be sorted to accomplish this?
- Are we still able to downgrade back to 3.41 after installing 3.55 CFW?
Apologies if these questions have been asked before, but I have been following the CFW for a while and stil unsure about these.
I'll post this again 1 last time here. It should help people.

The safest way is to use recovery to Reinstall OFW (Offical Firmware) 3.55
Then Update to Wutangrza using XMB (or Recovery if it dont work)
Then Update to GeoHot
Then install LV2.pkg

You would need to format it to FAT32. Simplest way is to back up everything on your HDD, then right click on the HDD on My Computer and click format and check FAT32.
I would recommend splitting the HDD (assuming you have 1TB - 500GB = PS3 and the remaining 500GB = Windows/Mac)
To do this,
click Start ->
Right Click Computer (Win Vista/7) or My Computer (Win XP and Less) ->Click Manage in the Pop Up Menu -> Click Disk Management on the Left Side Panel ->DO NOT TOUCH YOUR COMPUTER DRIVES! MAKE SURE ITS YOUR EXTERNAL HDD/USBFind You HDD/USB in the bottom Panel (it should say Disk 0 etc)
(Sorry for caps, this is a Noob Warning, no offence) Honestly though check what your drive letter is.
Once you have all that sorted, right click on the drive and click "Delete Volume". Once that's done, right Click on it Again and click "New Simple Volume ".
Click Next until you get to the Window that says "Specify Volume Size" from there get a calculator (or use your head) and divide the number of Maximum Disk Space in MB in half.
So 1Tb in MB = 1048576
1048576 / 2
Half of 1048576 = 524 288
So put that new number in the Simple Volume Size MB. Click Next
Then Assign the following drive letter: (set it to what you want. I Personally use the Letters from the bottom upwards). Click next
Format Partition -
Format this Volume with the following settings:File System: FAT32Allocation unit Size: DefaultVolume Label: PS3_Game (or what you wanna call it).Perform a quick format checked.
click next and click finish.
So in theory your drive at that bottom should be split in two. If the other half of the drive looks different, then simply right click on it and follow the same method as above.
BE WARNED! You cannot copy a file that is over 4GB into a FAT32.
Imagine this is a real game folder, and you want to copy this to a FAT32 HDD...
Folder_Game
-->Graphics
---->Pic1.png 2mb <FINE>
---->Pic3.png 1.6mb <FINE>
---->3D Models.bin 700mb <FINE>
---->GameWorld.bin 8GB -WONT COPY-
So remember all this. I hope this helps some.
Anyone updating from 3.41 to 3.55 i have heard that your games should work when you upgrade to 3.55 CFW.
Obviously you would need to update to OFW - Wutangrza - Geohot - Install lv2.PKG.
When you upgrade your firmware, EVERYTHING on the system will stay where they are, nothing will be deleted at all. It's just updating the firmware and nothing else. Even removing a game from MultiMan or FTP your savegames will still be on the PS3.
there is a new lv2 patch , lv1-2.pkg
