Sony Rolls Out New PSN Terms of Service & User Agreement V8

There are two big things I pick up from the new terms and conditions:

1, Sony can now upgrade your firmware without your express permission. If, during the upgrade, something goes wrong and your system is left bricked, it's YOUR fault, not Sony's.

2, Sony are reserving the right to charge for PSN IDs. That sounds very much like the precursor to a Microsoft-esque service where not only must a user have Official Firmware but also pay to access the network.

As a response to the first point, that has Class Action written all over it. OFW 3.56 needed a super-fast update as many OFW users with updated hard-drives were unable to use their PS3 properly. It's scary to think that Sony believe they now have a "get out of jail free card" in the highly likely event that a similar event happens a third time.

As for the second point, Microsoft have only ever managed to ban consoles that had been modden from on-line gaming. PS3 owners using custom firmware don't care about using their hardware on-line, if they did then they would be using OFW.

PS. Just noticed that Sony refer to the PS3 as a "PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system", that should be of interest to GeoHot and his attorneys.

you know whats really stupid and wierd at the same time? sony is making a huge deal out of the PS3 when yet the PSP is a hackable system why wouldn't they start doing something about that. honestly sony really needs to back off technically we are not pirateing software we are just copying it to our hard drives so what big deal they are not losing a lot... well maybe a little money from game sales but what about addons.

Class action Lawsuit coming on?? I don't agree to any of the new terms, so I think they should have 2 buy back everyone's PS3 that doesn't agree 2 new rules in the middle of the game...

also it is illegal to hack into my network and change my network settings on my personal computer as well as my playstation 3 if its connected to my network through my isp which also violates my isps terms sony

you will prob see many isps taking sony to court if this gets out

also last night my playstations 3 fan went nuts i wouldnt be suprised if sony tried to kill me by setting my room on fire i am starting to think they are run by the triad
