Or the fully-featured PS3 in the beginning and the cramped PS3Slim now,...

But actually situation is not so critical because all we need (if we want to customize our ps3 the way we want it not sony) is to have ps3 hacked. Then we will be able to use “ Other OS” on it (maybe even mod-chips like for example “Infectus” will add to the menu of ps3 “other OS” line) and run any homebrew on it. Like if ps2 wouldnt be hacked then I am sure that no one could run Black Rhino on it cause there could be no possibility to run kloader.
2. The PS3s software is encrypted, while the PS2s is not, thus "getting started" on PS3 is a lot harder would I say.
1. "Homebrew" doesn't necessaryly mean "Open-Source".
The only question I have is: Will someone one day hack ps3 and open door for open-source software (homebrew) for ps3 or will be ps3 stay unhacked and it could be recorded in guiness-book
like system with the best security ever created on console market ?
2. I think it will be hacked, one day but two things to consider...
a. I think, there is a lack of interest in hacking it for the biggest part of the knowledge-able people, or spreading info about how they've probably done it themself (and we just don't know it).
b. ...those people probably do not want the "company-vs.-hacker-fight", which Sony introduced with their "Updates".
(c. Sincerly I think there are better security-systems and all were hacked once, or are going to be hacked at one point.)
I see, the PS3 has a lot of power and so on, but I don't think an open-platform would help most homebrewers, which want to programm on hardware/low-level, since they must learn programming for the Cell and I think learning for a completely new hardware ("new" in the sence of "I didn't ever programmed for it before [in sight of a programmer]") takes some time.
I am not hacker myself ,though trying to learn as much as possible from world of computers.
I know that hacking is not as easy as it actually looks, but I dont understand why cant hackers of all the world to unite , hack ps3 and teach sony one really usefull lesson that its not actually nice to behave the way sony behaves with its customers ?
Anyway I hope that hackers one day will hack ps3 and prove to sony that community is stronger...
I even understand, that they deserve it in some ways, but...
Another thing is, that not they will bleed but the customers.
For example the PSN/PSN+ and all that stuff...
