There's already cheaters online, In MGO, if you're ping is anything but GREEN they automatically assume you use a lag switch and attempt to boot you from the game, people can't seem to thing that not everyone has a perfect connection all the time.

They are not stupid, they know we have the root key,
they know that the security is compromised right now in a very serious way.
They know that they cannot change the root key with network updates.
So they will find a way around all this, by releasing new hardware in their new consoles.
And without doubt they will implement security (not key based) in their next FW updates.
The dev's at Sony are not that stupid. we needed 4 years to break their security. They will think of something.
And then we will hack it again.
PSN is Sony's last card to convert pirates into paying customers. Pirates can already play backed up games, banning users won't change that, but once they are banned there is no incentive for them to buy games for online play.
If you ban all of them, your chances of ever getting them to buy online games will drop considerably (considering they would need to buy another $300 console first, which is unlikely for most banned users).
Sony is much better off fighting hacked consoles with new firmware updates. Eventually most hacked console users who value online play will begin to get tired of not having PSN available consistently.
Fight with updates, but banning systems should be a last resort as your basically alienating those users from being potential buyers if they can't play their bought games online.
I'm guessing their reference to 'network changes' implies that each and every PS3 user will have to re-register with PSN, allowing Sony access to your console file setup. Any homebrew, unauthorised apps, games, CFW or MFW will be detected and you get the banhammer.
While we're still waiting to see what Sony will do, I see the ban speculation has returned. (Wow, good job MS - you've scared people from every scene; not just your own )
There's no evidence that Sony will ban. In fact, if you compare a few things...
- Sony doesn't charge people for online multiplayer gameplay, while MS does. MS has a business model in place to also hire "XBL Police" to enforce and hand out bans. PSN+ is a paid service, but is related to content and not at all multiplayer gaming. More like "discounts for DLC", and not really an extra budget to create from it.
- Nintendo's Wii has been hacked for quite a while, now. Bans only occur if you're caught cheating.
- Sony is a Japanese company just like Nintendo - not to say they can't copy Microsoft's actions if they desire, but what incentive do they have?
I also don't see any reason to ban. MS does it to ensure they can keep charging for Gold. If you're just playing a game however, how are you in any way lessening someone else's experience?
honestly I don't even think sony cares. Even though we have "the keys" hackers and devs have not made anything useful out of it thus far and have just been waiving the keys around like an Epenis, "look at us sony! we got your keys!!! but we don't wan't to do anything with them cuz we are afraid of piracy!!"
As usual Sony have to look like they doing something but banning from PSN is gonna be loosing bussiness. I just upgraded to 3.55 custom and bought final fantasy 8, thats all i need PSN for, but all we need i think it a mac address spoofer which should slow them down abit.
since i have 2 ps3 i dont care if they ban consoles. i dont intend to play online with my 3.41. i migth update to 3.50 just for 3d blu ray but that is about it. still paying customer and i think i stay that way for now.

Just like the Xbox 360, the only way to change the console id\serial number is to take the keyvault from another console and flash it. You're not actually changing it for a new one though.
Sony is stupid, but not THAT stupid...

Exactly : They push the hackers to make a tool which is able to create a ps3 readable blu-ray game, where they can implant their update files.
A few seconds later the first guys will start to produce ps3 game blurays for the black market.
