Sony say "Sorry!", to all their screaming fans on their Blog on Monday, and released new versions of the v3.41 files which they claim will fix up your bricking machines due to user-upgraded HDD's.

We have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.
Not sure how this will fix those stuck in a loop at 99% since you can't get into the "recovery menu", because how you going to tell the PS3 to look for this new files on a USB stick if you can't get into the "special menu".

The only way, I been able to unbrick those 99% machines, is to open up the system and remove the small 3volt battery which holds info like clock, update flag, hdmi setting, etc.

Sadly, the funny thing is, all the bricked machines I see at my shop, had original Sony supplied HDD's, nothing "upgraded" about them. -- Oh'well!

I think that's some kind of magic, we should ask sony about that. Sony just want to prove ( everytime there's any kind of faulty firmware ) that everything is caused because of Playstation 3 users, way to go sony.

almost every single new firmware update has terrible bugs. ha, ha, the most random fw bug was when the date and time were off (like the 2YK bug) and sony asked PS3 owners not use their consoles.

the last fw that started the small phenomenon of PS3 brickings while trying update was the infamous v3.21.

Sony has launched a new revision of PS3 firmware update. The PS3 firmware update has come to solve a known bug of the console. Sony has taken a rather little to fix the problem that some users had with installing PS3 firmware 3.41 update. Have decided to launch a new PS3 firmware update to correct previous errors, so it is advisable that you installed has always happened “that hard disk error”. It truly is a place for those who want to download PS3 firmware update again and is expected to be substantially correct. The official blog for PlayStation also warn those who do not have installed the PS3 firmware update to do so to enjoy greater security and also to play all the titles. Only we have to “Login” on the internet and this will be notified that there is an PS3 firmware update. You can also update by USB memory (Pen Drive) will be easy if you follow these tips. We will create a folder called PS3, inside this create another folder called Update and just download the update from the Sony site and place it in the folder “Update”. Finally we have to connect the memory, go to system update and then “Update via Storage Media”.
