Showtime Mediaplayer Ported to the PS3!

All good things come to those that can wait!

And that day has finally arrived, with Andoma dropping the 'homebrew' bomb that everyone been waiting for on the PS3 since the first Jailbreak dongle video back in Aug. was released.

It only a week away before the PS3 'scene' becomes 7 months old, but right now you can finally enjoy the fruits of Andoma hard slaving away as the LonelyCoder and start enjoying a functional 'mediaplayer' on your PS3!

I've ported my opensource mediaplayer called Showtime to PS3 + psl1ght

A quick getting started guide (also include download links to pkg and self files):

It's still in beta stage but should work to some extent. As it relies on FFmpeg for audio / video decoding it should be able to play most files as normal open source media players can do (XBMC, VLC, etc). I've not tested it thoroughly yet (in particular video playback).

If you find files that are not playable or plays with framedrops or loses av-sync etc, please make them available so I can test them.

Please remember this 'mediaplayer' is in the BETA stage, and is being updated and improved, so far the author says the following:

1080p won't work yet, 720p however does. Working on getting 1080p working by a) multithreading b) spu

For those still using Jailbreak Dongles and keeping their PS3 consoles at firmware v3.41, the makers of "Showtime Mediaplayer" have informed me of this wonderful link to a v3.41 package ready to install:

v3.41 -> PSX Store - Utilities > PS3 > Apps > Showtime Media Player v2.99.158 FW 3.41

Update! The Redmine web application could not handle the amount of download requests so the files have been removed from within redmine.

New links are available from the Showtime - PS3 usage guide - Home Theater System page.

The old URLs still redirect so any links published on the net still works.

This is great. I had to delay audio on the movie by 30ms (Social Network). so far no Cinavia BS.

OMFG.. wow! Thank you so much. Dude you need to hook up a donation button.

Just tested a couple of sample files before bed.

AVI - played flawlessly (including audio) - I have no real specs on the file other then it was 720p.
MKV - framerate dropped heaps and sound is out of sync by about 8 seconds.

Yesterday I married my non-orig blu-ray drive to my PS3 to get working homebrew.. today this comes out... just awesome!

Here is some immediate feedback from me:

The PS3 remote does work, but only the basic buttons that are on the dualshock.

Is PlayOn supported on the Linux version of Showtime? I can't get any videos to play for me on my PS3. They give an HTTP error when I try to play them.

I've had my PS3 freeze once as well while playing a low res divx file.
