Sony hasn't done anything illegal. It's not illegal to sue for any reason. I could sue you for spitting on my shoe, even though you clearly have not. Then, when we get to court it's up to me to prove you spit on my shoe.

Who said this stuff was legal? Circumventing digital copy protection is against US federal law. It's also against US federal law to distribute such information.

Why do you think GH gave up? Because there was no way in hell he could have ever won.

People need to realize that the PS3 is two different things. It's hardware AND software. You can throw the hardware off a tall building for all anyone cares. But you can NOT do whatever you want with the software. The software is protected BY LAW.

there is a bit of a grey area in this subject. you can share information about breaking security or breaking software of any kind. what you can't do is give out authentication codes or of the like. and to add to this, some cd and dvd user agreements have stated you can make 1 backup for personal use. BUT.... there is still copy protection on the disc.

No, you can not. Not in the US (nor many other places). You can talk about it but you can not share specific information on how to break the security. DeCSS is a very good example of such. It's someone own program to decrypt DVD encryption. There are no keys. You aren't sharing anyone's proprietary property. Instead you are sharing a third party program that can decrypt digital copy protection and it is illegal.

Granted, good friggen luck catching everyone who's using it.

Well, about time. Now there's something I side in with Sony. Get those *******s who make a profit with stolen **** then don't support the customers and just stay on 3.41 even though people PAID for this and they promised updates.

true, but as i know geohot has his ps3 on a firmware that has linux on it... so, linux is freeware and open source, so $ony must release his souce code because of that, and... if the ps3 is open souce too then geohot did not do anything illegal.... i'm just sayin'
