SCEA vs. George Hotz - Day #2

Well Day #2 (12th) is now over with tons of new court papers filed by both Sony and Mr. Hotz!

Thanks to our new PSX-SCENE member Sangreal who was kind enough to drop us all the latest court files.

The best reading is #04.pdf, which is 280+ pages of printouts from various forums, websites, etc.

And Sony has not been idle either. They filed new papers showing that forum users have been cloning and mirroring the various GIT's, also noting that at one point Mr. Hotz had removed the 'root key' from his website. It is clear that Sony has been keeping an Eagle Eye on all the sites practically minute by minute!

A strange tactic Sony is attempting to use against Mr. Hotz was to send him $1 via his paypal account, which was the same as his email address, to prove that he was taking donations, even though he never requested any donations at any time! -- Naughty SCEA!

But, not to worry, it seems Mr. Hotz has hired a very good lawyer and his defense filings are a testament to that. They make for good reading also.

UPDATE: Just before today's (13th) hearing (day #3), Sony filed some more paperwork, trying to prove the "twitter/paypal" connection, which I have now attached here thanks to sangreal for posting them earlier for us!

Sony dumped a bunch of new screenshots today ahead of the hearing. It looks like they are going to try to use them as evidence that geohot used Twitter/Paypal in connection to his PS3 hacking: http://www.thesangreal.net/gaf/sony113.zip

UPDATE #2: Day #3 was over fast, hearing been pushed over until tomorrow (14th)!

At today's hearing I guess the Judge granted Sony's motion to file under seal the exhibits that contain confidential info like the keys and how to obtain them (see new attachments)

Well in all honesty if sites like sankakucomplex(google it NSFW so not gonna post link.) keep twisting the story we are gonna be in trouble. I've seen sites twist everything that is said about this scene into piracy. Like everything is done for the sole purpose of piracy. This is not helping the scene at all, and is probably why sony is citing piracy like crazy in the documents. Because the droves can't think for themselves and just let bias, and opinionated news articles color their opinion on something.

That response in opposition suggests we'll be seeing one or more motions to dismiss in the near future. We may also see a motion for change of venue and a motion to sever depending on what the other defendants do.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but if nothing gets settled out of court (which it won't) then more than likely, Sony's lawyers are going to make Geohot divulge the information as how he came about his method and specifics containing such information. He can try pleading the 5th (which will let him kind of take an easy way out of such information, but doesn't look good). But none the less...Once the case is over, anybody can obtain a copy of the transcript utilizing the Freedom of Information Act. (unless their is some kind of order or seal which I HIGHLY doubt will happen).

I think this was mostly just to fix the mistake they made earlier when they left the keys and other info in the document they filed. Nothing too interesting. They do complain about Geohot putting the keys back online though, as well as the mirror sites. I expect psgroove.com will take this zip file as an "exclusive" at some point too
