This reminds me of one time at a family dinner. I was watching pulp fiction and my 12 year old cousin comes in just in time to see a line of coke or heroin get cut up...he had NO IDEA what that powdery substance was and didnt care until my grandma says "oh, thats a no-no" to which my cousin says "whats a no-no?"
All this publicity is just going to make kids go after this hot cofee mini game even more. Kids that already have the game wouldve never known about it, now do, because its all over the news, G4tv, websites, etc. To me its not that big a deal. I remember the nude female wrestlers cheats on WWF Warzone back in like 98/99...they didnt get sued over it, and you could clearly see defined boobs with that gameshark cheat.
Also, by the time a kid is able to input an action replay cheat, or learn how to hack a memory card save, hes already seen, or done him/herself what the hot cofee mini game illustrates. This is terrible that a game has to be pulled off the shelves for a mini game that cant even be acessed through just putting it in your ps2 and playing. If they are going to rate san andreas AO, they also need to rate the action replay and every other cheat device AO, since you need a cheat device to actually play the hot cofee scene. Oh, and the tools required for memory card hacking...all those must now be AO also.
How many games are AO anyways, i cant think of 3...if there is a rating for such a game, then developers should make AO games. There should be a section in blockbuster for AO games. This way there could actually be games so violent, and so gruesome that they wouldnt have to be toned down at all from what was originally envisioned. They then wouldnt be limited to what an M rating allows...imagine manhunt, resident evil, mortal kombat, silent hill etc. with AO ratings....
Its plain and simple. Congress has been after the GTA francies for years now but couldnt bring them down. Now they went and gave them the ammo to do so. It is there on fault.
I think you guys aren't seeing the big picture here. Before it was rated M because while there was offensive language and violence, there was NO EXPLICIT SEX or extremely suggestive sexual themes (just like a rated R film) but since this code has come out, this has made it an Adults Only game and they are pulling it from the shelves to change it accordingly.
Hillary did have a huge say in it but it's not like she's saying to hell with the game so it could never be sold again, hell, she prolly didn't have anything to do with this whole mess anyways as the real culprit are the hackers at Action Replay for revealing to the world (and to minors) that theres an explicit sex mini game.
By the time Hillary made her comment, this mini-game was already in the PC version and discovered (although disavowed by Rockstar) so to blame her for all this is unjust, besides, most of you have already have the game anyways so why complain?
Instead of thinking with your emotions about how screwed up it is, think about what's really going on behind the action, why it would be logical to do so. Again, theyre only pulling the game to remark it as AO and it will be sold once more.
It was never about having it banned completely or the AO rating, it had more to do with the politicians' reactions. It's obvious that they went completely bananas over this issue, especially considering there have been precedents.
Take Gothic II, for one. You can have sex with a hooker and you're treated with a full on sex scene that makes the raunchiest R-rated movies look tame in comparison. Then you have Ultima VII where you have a nude dance with your ladyfriend before you finally give her the time.
The politicians can't save this society from self destruction; no matter how many games they ban or how many criminals they condemn.
EB games had SA on their website for sale under the AO rating yesterday. Now only the strategy guide is left. Hypocrites I say! If they print it with the AO rating on it I will definately be picking up a copy on every platform. Perhaps 2. Might be worth something on the ebay of the future.
already worth something on ebay
and it looks like amazon.com is the only major retail website that still has it for sale...
coincidentally, it's the #1, #2 and #3 seller (PC, PS2, Xbox)
pink sugar heart attack...
I don't know if RockStar is taking their chances or what, but I was watching SuperStation movie channel to day and the commercial for SA pop up. I was laughing my ass of because RockStar is definitely saying something with that "old" commercial.
i wonder if the cheat devices will have big trouble in the future.
in countries were the modchips are banned for modifing a copyrighted device (or software) it may be worht evaluating whether those cheat devices which are able to modify the function of a copyrighted program are legal at all.
darn it.... Blockbuster used to have a bunch of them used at 20 & some odd dollars each and Buy 2 get 1 free... now they don't even rent them.....
Seems like Rockstar got caught with their pants down. It was clearly put in for peopel to find. it's one thing for it to be in one version of the game, and another thign for it to be in versions for 3 different architectures!
I still think the rating should stand, but this was almost certainly intended ot be found...
