Yeah, I can't wait to see what tmbinc has in mind!
Just a few notes guys.Tmbinc is not the Hacker guy you may think who wants to make a profit of pirating the Gc scene. He is in fact an curious mind with a good job(University proffessor) that happened to find it interesting to analyse the GC scene. He has released very insight info about that console and is the one who came up with the idea of a bios override NOT for pirating but for HomeBrew development(real not the other..) purposes. He is not and will not be givining support to anyone who wants to boot Pirated games or does care about your soldering skills. The knowledge is there to anyone who can grasp it and do something with it...
Now to take that someones Idea and make your own product, equip it with Pirating Bios and releasing it to the masses at a VERY HIGH price and WITHOUT no support now or NEVER is not the most honest thing to do.The creator though did not seem to be very upset and offcourse not since he is not seeking approval. He even mentioned that they should be stupid not to use his ideas. But me as an average consumer would not really like the idea of a mod that forces me to pay it gold and without any help from them if it doesn't work, just because it is the f%!%@ing monopoly.
Yes I do admit I have purchased one to test it.Easy to solder yes but not quaranteed to work. There is a Bunch of consoles (Rev C mainly)That it does not work.No matter what.I had another here to test it but image the average user you mention to pay 100e the chip with shipping and then to find out his console is not compatible. Also the games that play have to be 1.4g with the junk data.It is very sensitive to the game size(with the exception of naruto games)and to the mini DVD-r media.I got it tested it and sold the system to the interested customer leeting him know of these "details"
Last but not least Tmbinc has announced that he will release another supperior sollution. It will be another bios replacement with mainly homebrew targetting but I think it will be a matter of time for someone to make it boot Games. And do you happen to know what I liked about it?It will be homemade just the previous one but more easy.No resellers ,no one to gain from. You go to the store buy the components and fix it yourself.Like someone said before. The pandoras Box has been opened. You only have now to choose wheather you want to pay 100e for something that really costs max 10-20e and in the future may cost you less.
Now to take that someones Idea and make your own product, equip it with Pirating Bios
You mean when I take my GameCube to a game rental shop it's going to pull games off the shelves and pirate them without my permission?
Or do you mean it makes it possible to pirate, the same way owning a steak knife makes it possible to murder?
If it's the latter, your argument is specious.
isnt this what america is about.. Making a buck.. really though guys this is capatilism at its best, competition.. so you are mad at viper because they did what others wouldnt, and they made money $$$$

Perhaps you're not getting the difference between a tool and an action.
The cobra BIOS lets you play a DVD-R. It's a tool, like a steak knife. Like a steak knife, you can use it legally (to cut steak, or, for the cobra BIOS, to play a backup game -- maybe in your country that isn't legal, but in mine it's specifically written into copyright law and we even pay for the privilege per disc). And, just like a steak knife, you can use it illegally (You could kill someone with a steak knife, you could also "steal" a game using the cobra BIOS).
Now, assuming we had a tmbinc chip (tm), and no cobra BIOS for it, we could still use that just as legally or illegally as a Viper GC with a cobra BIOS. Someone could make a homebrew game that runs on the tmbinc chip, and decide they want to copyright it and sell it. I could then not pay for that game and "steal" a copy of it and play that pirated copy instead. Or I could use it legally; I could find GPLed/Public Domain software to use, or I could pay for that copyrighted homebrew game.
So, do you understand why your argument makes no sense? The existence of a tool does not make something evil, just like the existence of steak knives in my drawer doesn't make me a mass murderer, and the copy of Cobra GC BIOS I have on my hard drive doesn't mean I have a library of pirate games.

Does anyone have any material about this not working?
Don't worry.. Next version of Cobra is going to work with many more consoles. Just hold tight.
Do you have any idea when this could be?
The Cobra 1.0 was released with the Viper GC just a few weeks ago right?
I guess the developers are trying to keep a low profile, it's hard to get current information.
It's actually 0.1.. that's why support is limited at the moment. They are on 0.2 right now with .3 due out sometime in the coming weeks. I hate to say it, but it seems like moanz is the best place to get into on the Viper.. I wonder why
