Where do you see Atmel ?
The chips presented are PIC18F2550 . But as i read those are upgradable too if the manufacturer includes a "bootloader " on the board , whatever that is . Can anyone explain what it is and why some cloners don't have it on the board ( eg ps3break ) ?

    I guess we'll see alot of P and less A ..

I guess putting on a bootloader requires more effort lol (don't quote me on that but that might be why :S)... so probably cutting down on costs. Also if the device doesn't have a bootloader, then you need a programmer to flash it and that costs like $10~15.

I guess one will be the PIC (-P) and the other will be an Atmel (-A).
Maybe a Atmel AVR ATmega8 ? Or a ATMega328 28 pin DIP with Bootloader and its only $6

@ JNABK - Nope but since your way off I will let you keep guessing, if you get it right you get a free early sample when production finishes.

@flo - cloners load the psgroove hex and encrypt (PS3key) or design badly (P3Free) to get more cash from users. This is just a simple bootloader on the device so users will be able to press 1 simple button and not go through the hassle of combination buttons and timing, encrypted material thats the same as open (makes no sense), or with wasting more cash on irrelevant flashers. Also you will be seeing a lot of the A version....P just launches first.

@ Syphler - correct, without a bootloader your going to need another device to accompany your purchased units....waste of cash and designed to get users out of more cash - beware.

For the Atmel, it can only be a AT90USB646 or 7 or the ATMEGA644. Else I don't know xD

64kb should be enough for everything. That big ass Linux payload by Marcan need a little less then 64kb...payloads wont get bigger then this (at least the PSGroove payload ... would be insane!). It's better to code apps that patches the kernel instead of filling the payload with patches.
