Sony announced today that Playstation Plus subscribers will get an 25% discount on cost of Protection Plan.
The added 1 or 2 year warranty to your Slim PS3 system, that is still currently in warranty.
    PHAT users need not apply!

Also if and when your PS3 breaks even if DON'T have the Protection Plan, if you are a PSN+ user, you will still will not have some of the added repair costs, like all shipping costs will be eliminated.

Also third-party authorized repair centers like MTC (for me Canada), have been ordered to lower their repair prices (just a bit) for older PS3 systems.

A phat PS3 (CECHA/E) will now only cost $149(labour)+$30(shipping)+$23.27(taxes) for a total of $202.27 whereas before it was $224.87 in total. Wow, what a discount!

So here in my neck of the woods, a phat PS3 repair if I was also a PSN+ user, would only cost me now $168.37 in total instead of the previous flat rate of $224.87 for those old worth-while PS3's that can play PS2 games!

UPDATE: I just phone Sony, and this PSN+ CHEAPER option is NOT available in Canada!

the fat CECHA will not be returned if sent into sony for repair. i have heard many stories of people sending their beloved backwards compatable system in for a repair and getting a different console in return.

Those prices are a scam. I can fix a YLOD problem for under $40 CDN and laser problems for under $100. **** Sony, they are way too expensive

This is pretty awesome! I'm currently a PSPS as well. I'm on the 3 month plan and so far, its been pretty cool. Seems to be getting better every couple of months or so. The only thing I really don't like about PlayStation Plus is that, once your subscriptions ends, you cant play any of the so called "free" games you downloaded anymore. It's not until you re-subscribe that your allowed to play them once again.

Huh, I would never of expecting they pull a switch on you like that. That's good info to know just in case you need to send your PS3 off for repairs.

Yeah, that's true. Guess you will just have to weigh in the pros and cons and decide what fits best for your type of situation.

Yep, funny thing is I know the owner of that Slim PS3, he bought it in to my little repair shop, to see if I could maybe fix it, or if not buy it for parts.

I gave him $5 for the honor of quickly using my webcam on my PC (which is a PS2 eyetoy (works great)) to take a picture of it, so I could upload it!

Told him that his smashing skills will at least get him 15 minutes of fame on the 'net.

Even the poor 120gb hdd inside was dented, and the nice 450 slim laser was ripped apart also.

I am saving it until Sony's Protection Plan is available here in Canada, and then I going to mail it to them to fix!
