This evening, PSN Crash's, and millions of users are upset!

All Sony units that are FAT models, are displaying 8001050F when you try to play a game, even downloaded content, only free demos will work.

This is happening even if you trying to play offline. -- Some people think it is firmware bug, or leap-year problem since it happen on Feb. 28, 2010, and it is now March 1, 2010 -- But that does not make sense to me, I got calls about this before midnight. -- Hopefully there will be an answer soon.

Sony claims they are working on the problem, but almost 12 hours later, no fix, just one http://twitter.com/SonyPlaystation claiming 120gb and 250gb Slim models work fine with no problems!

That has just make Sony Fan Boy's more upset, as you can view below. -- No comments from the 360 fan's yet!

it never hurts to be paranoid. i've taken such a scenario into consideration when thinking which next-gen console to buy.

in the end i didn't buy any. and this accident definitely won't encourage me to change my mind.

i don't even want to think about the console generation after x360 and ps3. it will probably be even more crazy.

Yep, still no update from Sony.

Tons of news reports around the world!

Once you get the error on your screen, that's it.

Goodbye PS3, no online, no clock (becomes Dec. 31, 1999), no downloaded content works, no playing any of your Blu-ray games.

    Very bad for Sony.

Looks like the only way out will be hopefully a "firmware update" via USB stick thru the "recovery menu"!

But this smart user has a 34 second fix for the problem:

Now, this guy is REALLY huge. Fu**in 120 kilos of fat. It seems the problem will let him finally go out and see the sky, breathe some air that doesn't smell like cheese and pizza... Unless he intends to spend the time until the fix arrives by recording other stupid videos (no sound here for now, so I don't know what is he talking about).

But seriously. This is really bad. I kind of decided to finally buy PS3 (already have x360 borrowed from my cousin here). Good thing it doesn't affect the new slim models.

I found the answer! --- It now has been proven -- Sony does have a secret timer inside their machines! -- This blog writer, was just a few weeks to early, this story was written on Jan. 13, 2010 -- He now can update it!

    http://pinktentacle.com/2010/01/secr...fter-warranty/

And this has been posted on various forums as to the cause of the problem:

Well the gist is that the ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, that is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. Is an old batch that sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods. Causing the ps3 system clock and the real time clock to desync, messing up security measures like Digital Rights management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason. As well as signing up to the playstation network... This CPU is always on even when your PS3 isn't even plugged in.

This problem is also happening with various of test Ps3 models, particulary the ones that has the emotion engine cpu/gpu for ps2 dev.

This is the one of the same type of CPUs that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem

The Slims ps3s aren't affected because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug.

A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila...
Again this does not make sense as I reported at the start of the thread, I had people complaining before the change over from 02/28/2010 to 03/01/2010, so if it was a clock problem it would not happen hours before. -- And then I have friends in UK and Aussie were it is already 03/02/2010 and still their systems still don't work.

And still no update from Sony, except again claiming the Slim's are fine.

This is obviously related to SOME RETARD who works at PSN server maintenance crew who messed up the store XML files. :P

My PS3 been out of the Internet for a good two weeks now and is unaffected even thought it's a FATTY (US 20GB type).

I guess I'm lucky I let the Ethernet cable out...

And I hope the IDIOT who messed up the service gets fired.

my sick imagination already came up with the sony-style solution.

"buy a ps3 slim or get your fat ps3 fixed for 200$"
