I second that. I have a wii and ps3, and I wouldn't recommend using the wii for nexflix since it can only do SD resolution. If you want to buy something specifically for netflix, then roku or even your computer (if it does high res output and your not using linux--no linux compatibility with netflix!) would be better options, in my opinion.
I find it somewhat ironic that in previous news posts, digs towards disreputable news sites are made in such a way that makes PSX Scene out to be the perfect news source and yet this very news post seems to be scaremongering or, at the very least, poorly worded. Sure, it's probably wise to avoid those news sites but at least try and keep the facts straight and the speculation to a minimum in your own news posts too.
PSN accounts aren't being transferred anywhere; PSN is keeping the accounts. In America only, SCEA's online services (including PSN) are being transferred to SNEA.[...] That all PSN Accounts are going to be transfered over to a new company called SNEA [...]
I don't see this anywhere, and it wouldn't make sense anyway. PSN cards can be bought in retail outlets if you don't have a credit card, for instance if you are under the age of 16/18. I did see this (emphasis mine):Another thing see reading thru the new Privacy Policy is they are also during the switch-over pushing you for Credit Card info
I don't know how this reads to the news poster, but it reads to me like you will only be required to provide credit card details to make a purchase via said card or to confirm consent for a child under the age of 13 to use PSN.You may choose to provide valid credit card information at the time of registration. If you wish to make a purchase through Sony Online Services and would like to pay for that purchase with a credit card, you will be required to provide valid credit card information at the time of purchase.
[...]
In the United States and Canada, if a Master Account holder is giving consent to allow his or her child under the age of 13 to participate on Sony Online Services, we require that he or she provide valid credit card information to confirm parental consent.
Uh, nobody said that it wouldn't be called PSN anymore. They (more or less) said they were moving PSN from SCEA to SNEA. Speculating that they're gearing up to start charging for PSN is, like I said, scaremongering.Remember they only promised PSN would be FREE forever, they didn't ever say they could not just up and change it to something else which is no longer going to be called PSN.
I really don't think that any of this is newsworthy on a scene site, to be honest.scaremonger - Someone who spreads worrying rumours or needlessly alarms people;
tl;dr - move along, nothing to see here.
I'm very surprised that no one notice this in the new TOS we can find here :
Qriocity - About Us
Currently ...1. ACCOUNT REGISTRATION
[...] Currently, there is no charge to create a Sony Online Services account [...]
And for credit card, it seems it's only when you create a sub account for a child
[...]If you are creating a Sub Account for a child, you must provide [...] and (ii) your credit card information if requested by SNEA for Sub Accounts for children under the age of 13 in the United States and Canada or under the specific age applicable to your country. Your credit card will be used to verify parental consent under laws requiring such consent [...]
I haven't played on my PS3 in quite a while now, and I have over £200 worth of stuff in my account. Please do refund this to me, Sony. It's useless without PSN access.
Oh wait, you're only refunding the contents of my wallet. Bastards.
It doesn't make sense to charge for owning an account. This would likely cause a decline in sales from the PSN store. However, they could segregate individual services and charge for accessing those services (like gaming, for instance).
In fact, I kind of wish they would do that and let us still access the store from a hacked console.
