You can get away with not using a pull up resistor on MCLR by not setting MCLRE = 1. Just need to keep the bootloader button de-pressed while connecting it to the PC.
I like the fact that the button is on RB7 (Pin 28). Makes for a much cleaner modification for the original schematic / board.
Also agree on not moving the LED away from RB1 unless there's a real reason to. Although I think alot of dev boards have it on RB5.
Whats the difference between these chips? Are they the same for what we are doing?
Zip contains Bootloadable and normal Non-Bootloadable hexes.
12/20mhz oscillator settings. There's a version for the LED being on C0, B0, and B1.
THE SAME HEX FILES WORK FOR BOTH THE 18F2550 AND THE 18F4550. I have tested and verified this for both direct programming and via bootloader. I don't have any 18F2455 or 18F4455 chips here, but I assume they will work too. They are the same chip except with less program memory.
Do not modify the bootloader versions with WinPic800. It removes some data from the beginning of the hex that is vital to it working with pdfsusb.
Please note: This is the [modified] PSGroove JailBreak code. To load the bootloader versions via USB, you need to already have the bootloader on your PIC. Note the difference between "Bootloader Version (of PSGrooPIC)" and "Bootloader". They are two different things.
If your LED isn't on C0,B0,B1 make a post and tell me. You can still use these files fine and the exploit will work. You just won't have LED feedback to see if it succeeded. It's not the end of the world. Once your PS3 boots, the fact that there is now the Install Package option under the Game tab tells you its working.

You want the SPDIP ones if you are soldering on protoboard etc. The others have tiny pins for surface mounting on PCBs.
18LF (vs 18F) means its a low power version. It just means they have an extended voltage range and can operate at lower voltages. Doesn't matter since the USB port won't deviate much from 5v. They also cost about 20c more wholesale, but if its all you can find, they work fine.

You can use *any* of the previously posted bootloaders as long as the button config is correct for your device. Programming the bootloader is a one time thing. Once its working and programmed, you never have to update it again.

ok ive rewired it all without any board so its just chip and componant wired
i press start then eject led flickers then it goses to xmb and it says unknown usb atached is this supost to do this ? used the fist page diagram circit with pic 18f2550-i/sp 20.000 cristal dont know if im useing correct hex need the one that dont have bootloader
