The world shortage is going to now spread from the Atmel chips, over to the Microchip family of PIC's.

MmueRtTe has tweeted that there is now a working release of the PSGroove over to the PIC Family, using the PIC18F2550 chip.

Currently the code is a little rough, you might have to reset a few times for it to work, due to the fact the PIC really is slower family of micro-controllers, but I sure it will be improved by others, but it is truely a step in the right direction, since it looks like the Atmel factorys will be not able to supply the sudden demand of chips for Blackcat or Teensy boards for at least 16 weeks, once the next batch of orders already paid for are processed and shipped.

PLEASE NOTE: Currently the attached files are just source code, you need to be able to use this program: CCS compiler V4.112 to compile the code into an .HEX file, but this program is NOT FREE, plus the chip does not have a pre-programed boot-loader, so you need to have a PIC programmer also or build one.

But I sure you see people assembling all the goodies soon, and making a package for you to buy, ready to go!

Our many thanks to MmUeRtTe for bringing the news to my attention!

Here link to the original author's thread, but sadly this famous Spanish site is being hammered with traffic due to this release, plus their work on a working PSP port: http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_inves...0_1479909_s460

There is a compatible board available to buy from the high street here in the UK:

Only problem is it has a serial port connection. I wonder if this problem is solvable via a Serial to USB cable?

but in terms of costs, that board is at least 2x more though.

As for the cable, i don't see why not, as long as it can pump out the signal as fast as a usb since usb data is serial data at its root anyway.

    Are you kidding me?
That price just for a pic programmer?
you can buy it for less then 10$ on ebay, or even build one like me (search "
Muti Pic programmer ver.2 Rev 8.0" on google).

About the serial port - no, you can't use serial to usb cable.
you'll need to buy one the intarfeces with USB thro Max32 (If i'm not wrong).

And for the software - you can use winpic/winpic800/etc..

    Good luck!

Then i can buy the things tomorrow

Also you can make a cheap programmer:

this if just friggin awesome! As soon as psgroove came out I was looking to port this this chipset but i'm not a programmer so thanks to the guy with the cahonas so do it

And i dont' think anyone has realised this yet but the PIC18F2550 is pretty much the same (if not the same I don't know but the pin outs are identical) as the PIC18F2455

    http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/e...doc/39632d.pdf

this means that the homemade USB jtag programmers for xbox 360 will be able to be modified ever so slightly to become a PSPicgroove
