RichDevX already created a payload for service mode. How is this any different? And, just because PSGroove recognized the announcement, doesn't mean it's been verified. All these news sites clone the news from each other.

Not a whole lot at the moment, except run unsigned code (which we can do in JB mode). RichDevX is still working on what can be done with it. I don't know fully though, I haven't kept up on his payload.

Well, did he release it? Are we able to do it right now? I read the thread here about richdevx payload, but it got off topic like so many threads here do...
It ended in a discussion of the GPL licence and flaming the devs for not sharing...

Ok, I just read through this whole thread, and watched the video. My thoughts are this: They're upgrading a console and playing the video in reverse.

The settings (including the time) reset after downgrade, that's why it becomes 8:00

Which, is more then the PSJB team offers. Sure, if this is real, people on 3.50 can downgrade. But, as many have pointed out, the cost of the PSJB dongle ($125-$150) + the cost of the downgrade upgrade ($40) = $165-$190. Now, how does that make sense when you can buy a refurbed PS3 for $280 (after all taxes, $249 before taxes)? Seems quite pointless to me.
