Hi Guys... hope someone can help me upgrade my PS3Break.
Not sure if it is a fake or not but it does have an Atmel chip inside.
Says upgrade, it has no button and when I cracked it open and this is what was inside.
I downloaded Flip 3.4.2 and selected AT90USB162 as the chip says.
When I try to open a USB port connection with flip I get an error:
com.atmel.flip.IspException
Could not open USB
When I plug the PS3Break in, it shows up in device manager as Generic with a question mark on it.
I am not sure if I need to get it in DFU mode somehow or find the right driver.
Please help !!
Thank you for confirming but that was not my question.
It is using an atmel chip which are upgradable and not PIC.
Possible it will go into DFU mode if I join the right two connection points?
Anyone know..... I suspect it uses the D7 pin and another as it is very similar to the PS3YES in layout.
Thanks![]()
I think I have the same ATMEL "fake" as you Drunken.
They are being sold widely in Thai gaming stores.
I am not overly concerned as it was cheap and it works.
Interestingly mine is identical to yours in every way, but does not have the "Upgrade" text on the case, and says it has v1.1 Firmware. I guess that makes it a newer version.
But then again, perhaps the printing on the case has just been changed. I am guessing they are programmed via USB in the factory. So we are probably at the mercy of whoever makes them getting round to shipping software to reprogram them.
I know a lot about PIC programming. But nothing about ATMELs. Ironically if I had a PIC one I have all the gear here to make it do pretty much anything I want, even if it was a v1.0 PS3Break!
Does anyone here know of software you can use to poke around in ATMELs over USB?
DataSheet is here..

I can confirm that the mods and recommended procedure for the PS3Break V1.0 w/ PIC chip does work. I have alot of experience and tech know how, a good soldering iron and a PIC programmer (WILLEM) from previous projects, and this whole procedure including the relflash of the PIC with bootloader code, installing the mods, and flashing it with the final BTL firmware w/ PS3GrooPIC took about 2-3 hours. If you don't have a PIC programmer or a simple means of updating the flash on the EEPROM, then it will be more involved and will cost you a little too. I had wires, resistors and any other supplies needed for the mods, so it was cheap and simple. The programmer can cost you 40-50 bucks though.
Now that I dod have my original PS3BREAK working, can someone confirm what the current best solution/combination is for the PS3break exploit (what version of code) and what backup manager to use ? I have read about 50 threads which all suggest different things, and I would liek to find out which solution provides the best compatibility and will let me play without a disk in the drive and will let me play from an EXT HDD (FAT32).
Thanks.
Check the other frequented thread about the ps3break on psx-scene. A good collection of hexes are over there as well, you just have to go through the posts. Also a tutorial on how to comile your own in the first post.

i dont wanna sound stupid or any thing but can u use this to program my psbreak 1.0
XBOX 360 USB SPI JTAG NAND tool DIYGADGET.COM
I am going to follow this guide: Updating the PS3Break v1.0 to get the HID bootloader on my old PIC based v1.0 PS3Breaks. My question is since his link is down for which hex to flash at the last step, what can i use instead? Can i simply just use illness's HID pre-compiled hex's? If not, which can i use? thanks!
EDIT: Or can i use it now as an official PS3Break 1.1 and use the normal 1.1 stuff on PS3Break's website
