Only problem is the PS3 erases and writes this flash chip during all their ps3 firmware updates, unlike the x360 which does not interfere with the drive being a third-party contract drive.
The Sony designed and build everything themselves, except for the sata controller, they are using a silicon image chip to talk to the new drive, but the drive is their design, plus of course it is married to the motherboard.
Here is neat question? how can you tell if your drive is married or not, if you been playing around and got three or four boards or don't know if you have the right board, even if the laser is dead, you can tell from the xmb that your drive board is the right one matching the key on your motherboard? (see if any of you can quess the right answer on how you call tell if they are matched or not?)
