the only solution to this will be for you to manually change the IP settings so that your PS3 will not be able to go online when you turn it on. your S.O. will still be able to play rock band and stuff but your PS3 will offline.

besides you will need to stay on v3.41 fw if you want to use PSJB or PSgroove. PSJB will only work on v3.41 fw and not below.

but please do not think my low post count implies that I do not know the difference between a game update and a firmware update

Works really well, nice and easy to setup and use... Downloading a few demos at same time using about 40mbps on my 50mbps line. Sweet!!

Will use this for any future demo downloads to speed things up!!

Well, to answer my own question, the use of a so-called psn proxy to avoid firmware updates was disabled in v3.21. I can't post links yet, but if you google "psn proxy" and click the first link for qj.net, you'll see what i'm talking about.

I guess the only real solution is a 2nd ps3 for online play (ie- time for me to get around to fixing my ylod launch 20gig ps3) or just not use the ps3 online. ever. i do tend to play online games with that other machine anyway.

the proxy that you're talking about does not in any way avoid or bypass fw updates. instead it allowed you to access PSN while being another fw that would of been older than that of the presently required one. for example, if v3.15 was the current fw and i was still on 3.10 or lower then i could go to PSN and play online. v3.21 fw was patched to render that proxy trick useless. plus, when that proxy was still working there was another simpler trick that involved manually setting a specific DNS address while being on an older fw to get to PSN.

there has never been any type of proxy brew that can "block" a fw update. PSJB can block fw updates that are mandatory.

It seems that $ony has changed something... once you get this running it downloads files you didn't ask for
With a regular connection you wouldn't notice this...

I guess FW3.42 does bring some changes, it seems to me that TV is updated with TV (Internet)Channels depending on the country you're registered.

I've intercepted the following folders and files:

You can watch (Internet)TV from your XMB, but you can also do this with any other device that's connected to the web

ive had the tvnz channel since 3.30 i think. has a seperate menu called tvnz on demand... watch reruns of shows you missed. came in handy to watch lost a couple of times but really overall it sucks

man ive had so much trouble all last night on trying to get iboot ive been using virtual machine and i keep getting massive lag when i run it form a disk... ill try ripping it to a virtual drive and running ubuntu of my comp

I'm stilll on FW 3.41, started a game which needed an update. The PS3 is connected to the internet with this prog.
You can now update your game, no need to be on the latest FW.
