hello im brand new here and looking for information on the newest methods of installing linux on a nand ps3.
@jjmaslac - if you are trying to reset hdd to original, i think the dual boot makes different partitions, so formatting (the active, or showing partition) will not help
try in xp (similar in other windows)
start menu > control panel > administrative tools > computer management > storage > disk management (local)
then on the bottom half scroll down and if you see it has multiple partitions, delete them all and reformat, at this point quick format SHOULD be fine.
if that doesn't work try "easeus partition manager".
    hope this helps.
i had a boot disk that would wipe sector zero making the disk rebuild the partition table on the next boot but i haven't used (or seen) it in awhile and forget the name of it.
ill look around (both physically and on my computer) to see if i can find it for you, it was a floppy so tiny program.

i look forward to seeing you all around the forums

Sorry, but because of the encrypted file system windows can't recognize the disk at all and gives a format option for the whole drive.
I always take my HD out of the PS3 to format it on a PC if I want to start all over. I did it also for this new Linux ps3dd way of installing.

If you want to mess with partitions on windows, try TestDisk (also for Linux). Doesn't work for the PS3 partitions but if you want to kill partition tables or something it is nice

    Welcome to psx-scene btw

I am trying to remove vflash7 (tried reformatting with OFW, on my pc, from the recovery menu and reflashing multiple time to no avail). I still get a 412 GB out of 465 GB free under system info (on a 500 GB drive)

Are there the files you were looking for?

    90% x 111Gb = something like 97Gb so this is correct.

When I installed Linux the old vflash way I ended up with 377Gb for GameOS and 43Gb Linux. That's 420Gb total for a drive that is normally 465Gb formatted.
Try a full format on the PS3 (better not ) for fun and see the PS3 needs 28 hours to format a 465Gb drive. Something I never understood and something I think really s*cks....
I did not think that ~10% of space was taken away. This does make sense since 10% of 465 is 418, which is around the size I get. Looks like I did not really have a issue in the first place (live and learn I guess ) On a good note, at least I have a really clean slate to start out on after zeroing out the drive....

Yes they are/were. Thanks very much. Do you know if the CFW355-OTHEROS++.PUP is the 22 GB version or the half HD version?

    Edit:

Never mind....looks like the host is back online. Thanks again everyone for the help!

Well it's better to do a full format on the PC. Which was what I suggested. Your entirely right though the PS3 takes far too long for full formats. I have no idea why. It doesn't make any sense.

Also thanks for clarifying on the amount of HDD space gameOS takes. I figured that was the problem as both linux and Windows have always been able to revert it back to a clean slate. I know OtherOS++ is still experimental but it's nowhere near that buggy lol.

@jjmaslac No problem m8. Glad you got everything sorted. I'm glad the site is backup so I can get to work as well .

well as of my last posting here i was ready to try installing linux on my ps3, i was just waiting for my 640gb hdd to get here. it got here today, unfortunately my ps3 got the ylod yesterday. sad i know. so ill be delayed.
as of today is this the current linux/ dualboot thread on here?
also does linux (installed in this manner) use more than one of the cores?
    is it reasonably fast?
i never even had linux back when it was common (official)
i just think it'd be kinda cool.
i guess if i have to wait to get my ps3 reballed, it can only get easier in the next month or so. thanks everyone for sharing all the info.
